**NOTES FROM THE OFFICE**
|
|
IMPORTANT REMINDER:
STUDENT PICK UP DURING THE SCHOOL DAY:
If you need to pick up your student during the day, the main office asks that you please send a note with your student in the morning with a time that you will be picking them up. That way we can write them a pass to hand to their teacher when it's time to leave. This avoids having to disrupt classes by calling in looking for a student. If you are giving your student permission to walk to an appointment, that must be stated in the note.

SOUL CLUB
Candy Grams & Hat Day & Ugly Sweater Contest...oh my!
|
|
SOUL Club was very busy this month adding holiday cheer for all! We sponsored a day in which students were able to wear a hat or hood for a $1 donation. The money raised was given to our school liason, Officer Greetham, who will put the money toward their local Shop with the Cop event. Then, we sold Candy Cane Grams for students and teachers to give the gift of cheer to their fellow students and teachers. These will be delivered on December 21. Next, we sponsored the holiday dress up days during the last week before winter break. In addition, SOUL Club brought holiday cheer to all staff by delivering coffee, juice, and treats with the holiday cart on December 20. Lastly, we ran an Ugly Sweater decorating competition. All students were able to decorate an ugly sweater and voting took place at all of the different levels to finally determine the ugliest sweater design for LGMS.
|
|
LGMS students competed in an ugly sweater design contest. They were given a sweater template and could use any materials they chose to create their own design. The following students had the winning designs for their houses: Lacey Jennison (Red), Sophia Konieczski (Green), Leah Gallo (Olympus), Landen Rouse (Lake), Grace Fowler (Omega), and Callie Petersen (Delta). After grade-level voting, the designs from Jennison, Rouse, and Fowler competed for the best LGMS design. Congratulations to Grace Fowler on her winning Ugly Sweater, and to Mr. Lottig for always being a great sport!

Math Applications with Mrs. Wade
|
|
Mrs. Wade's 6th grade math applications class at Lake Geneva Middle School reviewed and practiced area, perimeter, and surface area before creating and decorating gingerbread houses. Houses are on display in the main hallway by the library at LGMS.
A special thanks to our UW-Whitewater field study students, Ms. Rosio and Ms. Smid, who were a huge help with this project and in our classes for that past 6 weeks.

|
|
Mrs. Ward’s 6th grade science enjoyed learning about electricity and circuits in class.

|
The Lake Geneva Middle School Hope Squad is off to a great start. Hope Squad members were trained in QPR. It is important for our Hope Squad members to have strategies to assist a student in crisis. QPR will help them carefully question, persuade, and refer students in need to an appropriate adult. We, also had fun with some teambuilding activities and learning more about each other. Our Hope Squad is building trust and support with each other so they are ready and capable of helping all LGMS students.

Important: Student Attendance and
New Attendance Procedures
|
|
School attendance is very important, and we encourage families to make sure their children are in school as much as possible. However, children who are sick need to stay home for their well-being and to prevent others from becoming sick. Click the link to review the Lake Geneva Schools Protocols for When to Keep Your Child Home From School: https://bit.ly/3Bl6Gl9
|
Students need to be to school by 7:20am and are to be in their homerooms by the time the bell rings at 7:30am.
|
|
Student Attendance and Attendance Procedures
One of the biggest ways parents/guardians can help their child succeed this school year is to make sure their child gets to school, on time, each and every day. The evidence is clear: children with good attendance are more likely to be successful in school. High attendance rates are linked to high student achievement. Every day counts, and missing school even 10% of the time has a significant negative impact on reading and math achievement as children progress through school. We want to ask for parent’s/guardian’s commitment to making sure their child attends school every day possible this year.
When a child does have to be absent from school, we ask that you communicate with us about the absence BEFORE 9:00AM. When your child will be absent, you have three communication options:
Call Mrs. Kramp in the main office at 262-348-3040 to speak with her and/or leave a message.
|
REPORT ABSENCES ON POWERSCHOOL OR A PHONE CALL TO THE SCHOOL BY 9:00AM. THANK YOU!
|
|
START AND END TIMES FOR LGMS: Students need to be in class when the bell rings at 7:30am. School is dismissed at 2:45pm. Door Q (side door) is locked by 7:29am. Students will need to be dropped off by the main office after that time. Students are allowed 3 tardies per semester.
BREAKFAST: Breakfast is served starting at 7:00 a.m. The cafeteria area is only open to students purchasing breakfast.
STUDENT ABSENCES: When reporting your child out ill, please provide us with a detailed message with the exact symptoms your child is experiencing and how long they have had these symptoms. If your child is out of school due to COVID, please provide specific details including symptoms, if tested, or when they were exposed to a confirmed case of COVID. Thank you. To report an absence please call Mrs. Kramp at 262-348-3040.
STUDENT PICK UP: If you need to pick up your student during the day, we ask that you please send a note with your student in the morning with a time that you will be picking them up. That way we can write them a pass to hand to their teacher when it's time to leave. This avoids having to disrupt classes by calling in looking for a student. If you are giving your student permission to walk to an appointment, that must be stated in the note.
BUS PASSES: If your student will be riding the bus home with a friend, please send a letter in the morning indicating who he/she will be going home with. We will then issue a bus pass.
LATE BUSES:
Late buses run as follows:
3:30 p.m. - Tuesdays and Thursdays
4:15 p.m. - Mondays through Thursdays
5:30 p.m. - Mondays through Fridays
LATEX BALLOONS: We have students with latex allergies so please, no latex balloons.
STUDENT DROP OFF AND PICK UP TRAFFIC PATTERN:
Please enter from the southwest end of the loop (closest to the football field). Parking will only be allowed on the curb side. Thank you for being patient during drop off and pick up times. This area gets very busy, and we want to make sure our students are safe.
DRESS CODE REVIEW
Please take a moment to review the Student Dress Code as outlined in the Student Handbook. The handbook is part of every student's agenda.

School Breakfast Program at LGMS
|
|
Dear Parents,
Now that the school year is well underway, we are as committed as ever to our student's academic success. The first and best tool we can use to ensure all of our students are successful in school is to guarantee that each child begins the day with a healthy and nutritious breakfast – at home or school.
We would like to remind you that the School Breakfast Program is available to all students every school day. No advanced registration is necessary. These supervised meals are nutritionally balanced and vary daily. Second-chance breakfast is also available at the High School and Middle School.
School Breakfast is ideal for busy mornings when kids are running late, or parents have early work schedules. Often, kids are not hungry when they first wake up but are ready to eat when school begins. If breakfast at home is not convenient, please take advantage of breakfast here at school. Studies have shown that children who eat a nutritious breakfast have better behavior, attendance, and test scores.
School Breakfast Information:
Price:
High School: $1.70
Middle and Elementary Schools: $1.60
Questions? Call: 262-348-1015
If you did not complete a School Meals Application for free or reduced price meals in September and would like to now, please call (Jaclyn Sanders 262-348-1015) for further information.
Thank you for helping us ensure that all our students start the school day alert, well-fed, and ready to learn.
Sincerely,
Jaclyn Sanders
