Messages from the Principals:
Fall is definitely in the air!
As we move into October, LGMS students are very busy learning new material in their classes and working on school projects and/or preparing for different events. We encourage all students to stay current with their projects and assignments and study for their tests. As parents, you can be a part of your child’s Google Classroom in order to see assignments in “real” time, and you are able to check Powerschool for grades on assignments, tests, and projects. Please have weekly conversations about how your child is doing in his/her classes. It makes a difference!
During this first week of October, we will be taking our first i-Ready assessment. This replaces the MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) assessment that our middle school students used to take. The i-Ready Diagnostic will test the students on where they are as learners. The reading domains are: vocabulary, comprehension-literature, and comprehension-informational text. The math domains are: number and operations, algebra and algebraic thinking, measurement and date, and geometry. We hope all students will do their best on the assessments. We will take the assessments again in January and a final time in May. There is more about the i-Ready assessment from Chiper Tennessen, the District Director of Curriculum and Instruction, in a letter posted below.
We have had a terrific beginning to the school year, and we look forward to watching your children continue to grow as the school year progresses.

HOMECOMING SPIRIT WEEKEND
|
|
Next week, Tuesday, October 4th and Thursday, October 6th, we will be administering a new assessment tool called i-Ready, in which each student will be completing a short online test in both the areas of reading and math. This assessment will give teachers detailed information about your child as a learner.
Below is an informational letter, from our Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Chiper Tennessen, to give you some additional detailed information about I-Ready.
Please note that your child needs to have a pair of headphones, at school, in order to successfully complete the i-Ready test.
Headphones can be purchased in the Guidance Office for $3.00.

Important: Student Attendance and
New Attendance Procedures
|

Student Attendance and Attendance Procedures
One of the biggest ways parents/guardians can help their child succeed this school year is to make sure their child gets to school, on time, each and every day. The evidence is clear: children with good attendance are more likely to be successful in school. High attendance rates are linked to high student achievement. Every day counts, and missing school even 10% of the time has a significant negative impact on reading and math achievement as children progress through school. We want to ask for parent’s/guardian’s commitment to making sure their child attends school every day possible this year.
When a child does have to be absent from school, we ask that you communicate with us about the absence BEFORE 9:00AM. When your child will be absent, you have three communication options:
Call Mrs. Kramp in the main office at 262-348-3040 to speak with her and/or leave a message.
|
|
REPORT ABSENCES ON POWERSCHOOL OR A PHONE CALL TO THE SCHOOL BY 9:00AM. THANK YOU!
|
|
|
School attendance is very important, and we encourage families to make sure their children are in school as much as possible. However, children who are sick need to stay home for their well-being and to prevent others from becoming sick. We have a new tardy kiosk coming soon to the main office/attendance desk.
If your student is running late, please be sure they have their ID card ready to scan. Your student will scan their ID Card, the kiosk will record their tardy and print them a pass to class. (see sample in pic)
Students need to have their ID Cards in their backpack or in their chromebook case at all times. ID Cards are used throughout the day for library check out, lunch and now for attendance purposes.
If your student needs a new ID card, they can be purchased in the
Guidance Office for $1.00.

|
Students need to be to school by 7:20am and are to be in their homerooms by the time the bell rings at 7:30am.

DROP OFF/PICK UP INFORMATION

STUDENT DROP OFF AND PICK UP TRAFFIC PATTERN
PLEASE NOTE: The lane used for Drop Off and Pick Up is for ONE WAY traffic. You will only be able to enter from the south end of the loop (closest to the football field). In addition, parking will only be allowed on the curb side. Thank you for being patient during this time. This area gets very busy and we want to make sure our students are safe.
***If you have high school drivers dropping off your student(s), please remind them to slow down and leave earlier.***
Thank you for helping to make LGMS a safer place.
|
|
START AND END TIMES FOR LGMS: Students need to be in class when the bell rings at 7:30am. School is dismissed at 2:45pm. Door Q (side door) is locked by 7:29am. Students will need to be dropped off by the main office after that time. Students are allowed 3 tardies per semester.
BREAKFAST: Breakfast is served starting at 7:00 a.m. The cafeteria area is only open to students purchasing breakfast.
STUDENT ABSENCES: When reporting your child out ill, please provide us with a detailed message with the exact symptoms your child is experiencing and how long they have had these symptoms. If your child is out of school due to COVID, please provide specific details including symptoms, if tested, or when they were exposed to a confirmed case of COVID. Thank you. To report an absence please call Mrs. Kramp at 262-348-3040.
STUDENT PICK UP: If you need to pick up your student during the day, we ask that you please send a note with your student in the morning with a time that you will be picking them up. That way we can write them a pass to hand to their teacher when it's time to leave. This avoids having to disrupt classes by calling in looking for a student. If you are giving your student permission to walk to an appointment, that must be stated in the note.
BUS PASSES: If your student will be riding the bus home with a friend, please send a letter in the morning indicating who he/she will be going home with. We will then issue a bus pass.
LATE BUSES:
Late buses run as follows:
3:30 p.m. - Tuesdays and Thursdays
4:15 p.m. - Mondays through Thursdays
5:30 p.m. - Mondays through Fridays
LATEX BALLOONS: We have students with latex allergies so please, no latex balloons.
STUDENT DROP OFF AND PICK UP TRAFFIC PATTERN:
Please enter from the southwest end of the loop (closest to the football field). Parking will only be allowed on the curb side. Thank you for being patient during drop off and pick up times. This area gets very busy, and we want to make sure our students are safe.
