STUDENT ABSENCES: When reporting your child out ill, please provide us with a detailed message with the exact symptoms your child is experiencing and how long they have had these symptoms. If your child is out of school due to COVID, please provide specific details including symptoms, if tested, or when they were exposed to a confirmed case of COVID. Thank you.

STUDENT PICK UP:If you need to pick up your student during the day, we ask that you please send a note with your student in the morning with a time that you will be picking them up. That way we can write them a pass to hand to their teacher when it's time to leave. This avoids having to disrupt classes by calling in looking for a student. If you are giving your student permission to walk to an appointment, that must be stated in the note.

BUS PASSES: If your student will be riding the bus home with a friend, please send a letter in the morning indicating who he/she will be going home with. We will then issue a bus pass.

POWERSCHOOL PARENT PORTAL: The PowerSchool Parent Portal gives parents and students grades 6 - 12 access to real-time information including attendance, grades and detailed assignment descriptions, school bulletins and even personal messages from a teacher. You can also use PowerSchool to register to receive email alerts for grades, attendance, assignments and more. It’s a great way to stay connected to your child’s teachers and our school.

PowerSchool can be accessed via any device, and a free App is available for Apple and Android users in your phone's app store. The District Code for all schools is: QHKK. Learn more here: http://bit.ly/lgspowerschool

EXTRA CURRICULAR ANNOUNCEMENTS

Students and Parents: Another way to check announcements is at the Daily/School Bulletin in PowerSchool. Information concerning late bus options can also be found there! Check it out on your PowerSchool app!

SOUL CLUB: The next meeting is Monday, November 16 at 3:00 in room 402. There is a bus available after.

SKI CARDS: Students and parents! Alpine Valley is offering a ‘ski card’ that allows you to purchase lift tickets at a reduced price during the season. The card itself costs $22. Present the card at the ticket window to buy a reduced priced ($22) lift ticket for skiing after 3pm Sunday through Friday during the ski season. You can buy a card for anyone under the age of 18. See Mr. Turk for information or to purchase the cards. Cash only (exact amount preferred, no checks).

Our virtual Scholastic Book Fair begins next Wednesday, Nov. 11 and runs until Tuesday, Nov. 24. Families can shop online starting Nov. 11th and have their items shipped directly to their houses using the link posted in their Language Arts Google Classroom. Paper Roller Coaster Project

Problem Statement:

Seven Flags Theme Park is looking for a new roller coaster attraction.

Design Statement:

Use paper roller coaster template to design and create a prototype path for a roller coaster that safely carries a marble from start to finish.

Criteria & Constraints:

▪️ Marble cannot fall off the track unsafely.

▪️ Ride length must be a minimum of 10 seconds.

▪️ Maximum budget of $60 (imaginary).

▪️ Must have at least one uphill section.

▪️ Must have at least one jump.

▪️ Must have at least two original features (stairs, marble disappears, funnel, etc.) - No more than 2 funnels

▪️ CANNOT use templates for any purpose other than intended.

▪️ Coaster must attach/fit base of 18”x24” cardboard

▪️ Naming of roller coaster

▪️ Advertisement reading for the radio (100 words or less)

FOOD DRIVE

The LGMS SOUL Club would like to inform you of the 2020 Food Drive competition which will be the week of November 9 - 13.

Here is the scoop:

Each grade level will have their own competition between homerooms

Each food item that matches that day’s theme will be worth 1 point

For 2 bonus points you can bring in packages of toilet paper (each roll will count as two points, but we ask you to only bring packs or individually wrapped rolls.)

Students will bring donations to their homeroom bin at the beginning of the day

There will also be a collection box at the Lake Geneva police station and the fire station

All donations will be taken to the Lake Geneva Food Pantry

The food categories for each day:

Mac and Cheese Monday

Tuna Tuesday

Noodles Wednesday - Spaghetti, Pasta, Ramen

Canned Foods Thursday - Canned Fruit, Soup, Vegetables, etc.

Breakfast Foods Friday - Cereal, Pancake Mix, Syrup

Due to COVID-19, the Lake Geneva Food Pantry is only accepting specific items; if you are able to donate items beyond the themed items of the day, please make sure that they are found on the list below so that they can be accepted at the food pantry:

macaroni and cheese, instant mashed potatoes, canned soup, canned vegetables, canned fruits, tuna, skillet dinners, canned pasta, spaghetti sauce (canned), spaghetti, rice (2 pound packages), pancake mix, pancake syrup, cereal, ramen noodles, peanut butter, pork & beans, chili with beans, toilet paper

Thank you for donating!

Students in Mrs. Maertz (Suchy) science class learned about the water cycle. They conducted an experiment to learn about condensation, precipitation, and evaporation. They invite everyone to try it at home!

Experiment steps:

Step 1: Fill clear cups with water.

Step 2: Spray canned clouds (shaving cream) on top of the water.

Step 3: Use colored raindrops (food coloring) to create condensation within the cloud until we see precipitation occur.

Step 4: In a separate cup, fill with water and colored raindrops, mix well.

Step 5: Mark the water line with a permanent marker. Put in a sunny place.

Step 6: Check back later to observe evaporation.

VIRTUAL/BLENDED STUDENTS AND PARENTS ONLY

For our Virtual/Blended students during class time:

1. It is very important that the student is on time to class. Students,please be waiting for a few minutes before the start of class time in order to click on at the beginning of class. The teachers are taking attendance and beginning class with activities. When a student joins the class late, it causes a disruption both on-line and for the students who are in-person.

2. Students need to have their cameras on during class unless the teacher says otherwise. The teachers need to see the students when they are taking attendance and during instruction.

3. The Chat feature during Google Meet is for asking questions of the teachers or answering their questions. It is not for the students to talk to each other during class.

Chromebook Problems? Please follow these steps:

If a student is having tech problems with the device, you, or a parent/guardian, should send an email to techsupport@badger.k12.wi.us. Please include the words "Virtual Student Tech Help" in the subject line. Explain what is happening in as much detail as possible, including what you were doing when the problem happened. We will respond with some things to try but ultimately you may have to bring the device to Chromebook Corner. If we cannot fix it quickly we will issue a loaner while yours is getting repaired. We configure the loaners on a case by case basis so they can wait while we do that or come back.

SPOOF SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS

We are currently experiencing spoof social media accounts that seem to be posting inappropriate things about Lake Geneva Middle School and our students. The accounts are often using our school logo. The sites are using words such as “tea”, “shade” and “drama” and are encouraging students to gossip and share secrets about one another.

This is happening not only to Lake Geneva Middle School but schools across the country. We have been informed that some of these accounts may be operated by individuals who are not in our community or even in the United States. If a student submits gossip to one of these accounts, they're effectively identifying themselves to the unknown account holder as students in our school and residents in our community.

While we are working with law enforcement and taking cybersecurity measures to try and resolve this matter. We encourage you to speak with your child about the dangers of these types of sites.

FREE MEAL BOX

FREE Meal Box for Thanksgiving Break (November 25th - 29th)

The Lake Geneva Schools will be offering a FREE 5 day meal box to any child 18 and under through the Summer Food Service Program. Each meal box will consist of 5 Breakfasts and 5 Lunches. Sign-up by Monday, November 9th. Pick-up will be at Badger High School Front Entrance off of South Street on Wednesday, November 25th from 9:00-10:00 am.

Late buses run as follows:

3:30 p.m. - Tuesdays and Thursdays

4:15 p.m. - Mondays through Thursdays

LATEX BALLOONS: We have students with latex allergies so please, no latex balloons.

WATER BOTTLES: Students are allowed to have water bottles during the school day - WATER ONLY. Please, no other liquids.

Chromebook Care

Parents and Students: While we understand that accidents happen, it is important that students do their best to properly care for their chromebook. Should something happen to the chromebook, students should complete a Chromebook Repair Request form and take it, along with their chromebook, to the LMC.
