Jazz Band : Jazz Band begins the week of Oct. 15. Jazz 7/8 will meet on Monday & Wednesday. Jazz 6 will meet on Tuesday & Friday. Jazz begins promptly at 6:45 am. Enter near the 6th grade doors - Door Q. See your email from Mrs. Krause for more info.

Yearbook: You may still order yearbooks! $22 for the basic yearbook with options for personalizing! Order forms are available in the main office. The next ordering deadline for yearbooks at this price is October 26, 2018.

7th/8th Boys Basketball: For the week of November 5th: Our teams have practices on Monday and Wednesday til 5pm. Tuesday is our first interscholastic game against Whitewater. Thursday will be our final in house league night. Please refer to your son's basketball calendar for more specific details.

Gay-Straight Alliance Club (GSA) : LGMS has started our first after-school Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) club soon on Mondays in Ms. Kinney’s room until 4:00 pm. A Gay-Straight Alliance is a club that works to promote a more inclusive and accepting learning environment for all students. ALL STUDENTS ARE WELCOME TO JOIN. There is a 4:15 bus available. For a permission slip or questions, see Mrs. Milligan in the guidance office, or Ms. Kinney in seventh grade Olympus house. Information on ordering apparel below.

Chess Club : LGMS Chess Club is starting on Wednesday, November 7th in Mrs. Pettijohn’s room until 4:10 pm. Chess is a quiet and strategic game that requires sustained concentration and is open to 6th-8th grade LGMS students. There is a 4:15 bus available. Permission slips are available in the main office.

VETERAN'S DAY CELEBRATION

We will be having our annual Veteran's Day Assembly on Monday, November 12th at 9:30 am in the LGMS gym. All Veterans, parents and community members are encouraged to attend. 7th & 8th grade orchestras, choirs and bands will perform. Students who are performing need to arrive to school dressed in their music ensemble uniform. Students that are in more than one ensemble should just pick one to dress in, do not mix and match. Please join us to honor our Veterans!

BOOK FAIR

COMING TO LGMS

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to the LGMS LMC November 12-16 and November 19. Students will be visiting once to shop as a class during their LA classes and can shop during their study halls as well. The Book Fair will also be open during Parent Teacher conferences on Thursday Nov. 15 and Monday Nov. 19 from 3:30-7pm. Check out the LGMS website home page for a link to shop the fair online and have the books shipped right to school. We will have books for all ages, so be sure to stop in and support reading in our school!

SOUL CLUB

SOUL club had their first meeting on Wednesday, October 31, and we had a great turnout! Students discussed the importance of service work, and brainstormed in small groups the projects they would like to work on for our first school-focused project. Stay tuned for updates on the group's progress!

SCHOOL SUPPORT GROUPS

The Lake Geneva Middle School Student Services Department will be offering support groups for students. Support groups are an excellent opportunity for students to gain skills and insights into subjects that may be distracting them or preventing them from achieving their full academic potential. Groups meet weekly and are scheduled at rotating times. All students received information from the school counselors about the groups and were given a chance to sign up online. The groups that were shared with the students are listed below. If you have any questions about the groups and/or would like to include your child in a group, please contact your child’s counselor (Rob Ocker - last names A-L and Julie Milligan - last names M-Z).

ANGER MANAGEMENT : For students concerned about how they deal with their own anger and would like to learn strategies to manage anger appropriately.

LOSS: A support group for students dealing with issues surrounding the death of someone important to them.

RELATIONSHIPS : A support group designed to help students in their relationships with friends, acquaintances, and adults in their lives.

DIVORCE/FAMILY CHANGE : A support group for students dealing with a divorce situation, or change in their family structure.

STUDY SKILLS : A support group designed to help students with organizational skills, time management, and study skills.

LGBT : A support group for students who want to discuss and receive support with lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, and/or transgender issues.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Parents and Student Reminders

BREAKFAST: Breakfast is served starting at 7:00 a.m. The cafeteria area is only open to students purchasing breakfast.

STUDENT PICK UP: If you need to pick up your student during the day, we ask that you please send a note with your student in the morning with a time that you will be picking them up. That way we can write them a pass to hand to their teacher when it's time to leave. This avoids having to disrupt classes by calling in looking for a student.

BUS PASSES: If your student will be riding the bus home with a friend, please send a letter in the morning indicating who he/she will be going home with. We will then issue a bus pass.

LATE START: Late starts are the second Thursday of each month. On those days, school begins at 9:30 a.m. We ask that students not be dropped off earlier than 9:20 a.m. Buses run 2 hours later than normal pick up time.

LATE BUSES - NEW THIS YEAR:

Late buses run as follows:

3:30 p.m. - Tuesdays and Thursdays

4:20 p.m. - Mondays through Thursdays

5:30 p.m. - Mondays through Fridays

LATEX BALLOONS: We have students with latex allergies so please, no latex balloons.

WATER BOTTLES: Students are allowed to have water bottles during the school day - WATER ONLY. Please, no other liquids.

Help for Students After School

Primetime is our building-wide after school student academic support program. Primetime is an opportunity for students to get extra assistance from their teachers. Students at all grade levels are assigned to stay for Primetime when they are missing 3 or more assignments or currently have an F in any class. Primetime is assigned Monday morning in homeroom when teachers go over grades with students. Students who meet the requirements are required to stay on Tuesday and Thursday until 4:15. Our goal at LGMS is to get all students the support they need to be successful.

Chromebook Care

Parents and Students: While we understand that accidents happen, it is important that students do their best to properly care for their chromebook. Should something happen to the chromebook, students should complete a Chromebook Repair Request form and take it, along with their chromebook, to the LMC. Chromebook Repair
