WELCOME BACK!

Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year!

On behalf of the Lake Geneva Middle School Staff, we welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year. We are very excited to see almost 700 students on Tuesday along with fifty-eight new LGMS families (not including sixth grade). The school day is from 7:30-2:45, and all students should be here by 7:20 each morning. All students need to be in their first period classes when the bell rings at 7:30, and we hope that all students will be on time each and every day.

All teachers are available via telephone, e-mail, and in person when you have questions about your child’s classes or you have information to share about your child. If they are teaching when you call, they have voice mail and will call you back when they are able. Rob Ocker, school counselor (last names A-L) and Julie Milligan, school counselor (last names M-Z) are also available to help with concerns or questions you may have. Finally, Anne Heck and Grant Strobel, principals, are available to help as well. Communication is key, and we want you to contact us when you have questions and concerns.

As the school year progresses, do not hesitate to ask your child about their day and what they are learning about. All students have a student agenda that they write down their assignments. Ask to see it on a regular basis. It is truly a life skill to keep their assignments as it is the equivalent to our adult calendars that we keep. In addition, check your child’s grades on Powerschool regularly. That way, if you see something out of the ordinary, you can ask your child about it. If you are unsure of the answer he/she gives you, feel free to contact the teacher of that particular class.

Once again, we look forward to watching your child grow academically, socially, emotionally, and physically over the course of this school year. We are honored to be able to work with middle school students!

STUDENT DROP OFF AND PICK UP TRAFFIC PATTERN CHANGES!

We have made some changes to the area where students are dropped off and picked up to make the area safer for our students. The lane used will now have one way traffic. You will only be able to enter from the south end of the loop (closest to the football field). In addition, parking will only be allowed on the curb side. Thank you for being patient during this time. This area gets very busy and we want to make sure our students are safe.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ANNOUNCEMENTS

Students and Parents: Another way to check announcements is at the Daily/School Bulletin in PowerSchool. Information concerning late bus options can also be found there! Check it out on your PowerSchool app!

VOLLEYBALL: Any 7th / 8th grade girls interested in joining volleyball should jump, set, or spike their way to the meeting AND first practice right after school on Wednesday, Sept. 4th until 4:30 pm. Change right away and meet the coaches in the cafeteria. Rides can pick up at 4:30 or take the 4:30pm bus.

CROSS COUNTRY : Attention 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys and girls interested in Cross Country. There will be an informational meeting in the large group room by the cafeteria on Monday, September 9th until 3:30. Practice begins on Tuesday, September 10th for athletes that have a turned in the following forms: Physical Form, Concussion Form, and Alternative Transportation Form. All forms will be available at the informational meeting. Any questions, see Mrs. Pulokas or Mrs. Pettijohn.

FLAG FOOTBALL: Attention 6th Grade boys and girls. Flag football season kicks off on September 12. If you want to have fun and meet some new people, join us for the season. Games will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays Pick up a sign-up sheet from Mr. McGrath in the Green house.

BAND: Band Contracts (will be sent home on the first day of school) are due to Mrs. Krause by Friday, Sept. 13.

GSA: LGMS Gay-Straight Alliance will meet every other Monday, starting on October 7. See Mrs. Milligan or Ms. Kinney in 7th grade for sign up.

SOUL CLUB: LGMS Service and Outreach Uniting Leaders, or SOUL Club, will meet every other Monday, starting October 14. See Ms. Kinney in 7th grade for sign up.

GIRLS WHO CODE

Badger High School will begin a new and exciting club for girls in Middle and High School next year called "Girls Who Code". Girls Who Code is on a mission to close the gender gap in technology and to change the image of what a programmer looks likes and does. For more information contact Mr. Popanda at Badger High School.

MISCELLANEOUS INFO TO KNOW

BREAKFAST: Breakfast is served starting at 7:00 a.m. The cafeteria area is only open to students purchasing breakfast.

STUDENT PICK UP: If you need to pick up your student during the day, we ask that you please send a note with your student in the morning with a time that you will be picking them up. That way we can write them a pass to hand to their teacher when it's time to leave. This avoids having to disrupt classes by calling in looking for a student.

BUS PASSES: If your student will be riding the bus home with a friend, please send a letter in the morning indicating who he/she will be going home with. We will then issue a bus pass.

LATE BUSES - NEW THIS YEAR:

Late buses run as follows:

3:30 p.m. - Tuesdays and Thursdays

4:15 p.m. - Mondays through Thursdays

5:30 p.m. - Mondays through Fridays

LATEX BALLOONS: We have students with latex allergies so please, no latex balloons.

WATER BOTTLES: Students are allowed to have water bottles during the school day - WATER ONLY. Please, no other liquids.

Chromebook Care

Parents and Students: While we understand that accidents happen, it is important that students do their best to properly care for their chromebook. Should something happen to the chromebook, students should complete a Chromebook Repair Request form and take it, along with their chromebook, to the LMC.
