STUDENT ABSENCES: When reporting your child out ill, please provide us with a detailed message with the exact symptoms your child is experiencing and how long they have had these symptoms. If your child is out of school do to COVID, please provide specific details including symptoms, if tested, or when they were exposed to a confirmed case of COVID. Thank you.

STUDENT PICK UP:If you need to pick up your student during the day, we ask that you please send a note with your student in the morning with a time that you will be picking them up. That way we can write them a pass to hand to their teacher when it's time to leave. This avoids having to disrupt classes by calling in looking for a student. If you are giving your student permission to walk to an appointment, that must be stated in the note.

BUS PASSES: If your student will be riding the bus home with a friend, please send a letter in the morning indicating who he/she will be going home with. We will then issue a bus pass.

POWERSCHOOL PARENT PORTAL: The PowerSchool Parent Portal gives parents and students grades 6 - 12 access to real-time information including attendance, grades and detailed assignment descriptions, school bulletins and even personal messages from a teacher. You can also use PowerSchool to register to receive email alerts for grades, attendance, assignments and more. It’s a great way to stay connected to your child’s teachers and our school.

SKI CARDS: Students and parents! Alpine Valley is offering a ‘ski card’ that allows you to purchase lift tickets at a reduced price during the season. The card itself costs $22. Present the card at the ticket window to buy a reduced priced ($22) lift ticket for skiing after 3pm Sunday through Friday during the ski season. You can buy a card for anyone under the age of 18. See Mr. Turk for information or to purchase the cards. Cash only (exact amount preferred, no checks).

INTRAMURAL SPORTS PROGRAM: The LGMS Intramural Sports Program starts on Monday, October 26th for any 6th-8th grade students who signed up. Boys will be playing on Mondays and Wednesdays and girls will be playing on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4:10. Any student not riding a bus needs to be picked up by 4:15.

Wisconsin Testing Centers

Students in 7th grade Lake house science are working at lab stations investigating mollusks, arthropods, annelids (segmented worms), and echinoderms. They have been working hands-on with specimens, reading information about the different phyla, and investigating each of these groups from chapter 2. Students may use their textbooks for research, and they are also able to access Google Classroom for study tools and resources. Ask your son/daughter to show you their Google Classroom account, and ask them to share what they have been learning in science class.

OUTSIDERS DAY

As a culminating activity, eighth grade students (and staff) at LGMS enjoy dressing up as their favorite characters from the novel, The Outsiders!

INFO REGARDING CHANGING YOUR STUDENT'S LEARNING MODEL FOR QUARTER 2

Lake Geneva Schools Families,

We will end the first quarter of the 2020-2021 school year on Thursday, October 29, 2020. We have successfully been able to offer quality educational programs for in-person, virtual and blended learners as of this date. We are very pleased that we have been able to keep our schools open for in-person instruction as well as provide a higher quality of virtual options than were available last spring. It has been challenging and we certainly are not operating in our usual manner. With that, our staff and students have responded in a positive manner to a new and demanding environment and I hope we all appreciate their efforts.

We continue to monitor COVID cases in our schools and I once again encourage you

to check our website for accurate daily updates on the pandemic on our dashboard. Simply click on any school’s website and then click the COVID-19 Resource and Communication Center button at the top of the webpage. This will provide you with the latest, most accurate updates. As we continue to move forward through this unique school year I want to thank you for your continued support and encouragement as we strive to offer the very best educational programs in the healthiest environment possible to the students of our districts. Please read the following important information and have a great second quarter to the 2020-2021 school year.

2nd Quarter Learning Model*

I hope you and your student have settled into their chosen educational format (in-person, virtual, or blended) throughout this quarter. With the second quarter quickly approaching, I would like to remind everyone that if you would like a different learning model for quarter two than you are currently enrolled in, please contact your school no later than Tuesday, October 27, 2020. Elementary and Lake Geneva Middle School families, please contact your principal. Badger High School families, please contact your assigned counselor.

Students that begin the second quarter enrolled in virtual or blended learning are asked

to stay in that learning model for the entire quarter. The second quarter will end on January 21, 2021. At any point in the year, in-person students will be able to change to virtual learning if requested because of changing health-related conditions in our community or for personal reasons. However, virtual students will not be able to be enrolled in the in-person model outside of the October 27th deadline window during the remainder of the second quarter. This allows us to monitor our class sizes more readily to properly maintain physical distancing to our maximum potential.

*Quarter 2: Badger & Elementary Schools:

November 2, 2020 - January 21, 2021 / LGMS: November 4, 2020 - January

21, 2021

2020-2021 Academic Calendar

After reviewing the original 2020-2021 academic calendar, our school boards have decided to make several changes in order to provide our staff with additional teacher in-service days. These days will be utilized as teacher workdays and allow teachers to continue to be trained on the technology and have preparation time to continue to provide the best education possible to their students.

Please note the changes from the original calendar are as follows for ALL students 4K-12:

- Friday, January 22, 2021 (No school for students, originally was a half-day)

- Friday, March 26, 2021 (No school for students, originally a full day for students)

- Friday, April 30, 2021 (No school for students, originally a full day for students)

Hopefully, advance notification will help you make any child care modifications a bit easier.

We will continue to keep you informed of any changes during this most unusual of school years. We continue to be optimistic in our goal to provide a quality in-person education as well as virtual options in the healthiest of environments as possible during this school year. VIRTUAL/BLENDED STUDENTS AND PARENTS ONLY

For our Virtual/Blended students during class time:

1. It is very important that the student is on time to class. Students,please be waiting for a few minutes before the start of class time in order to click on at the beginning of class. The teachers are taking attendance and beginning class with activities. When a student joins the class late, it causes a disruption both on-line and for the students who are in-person.

2. Students need to have their cameras on during class unless the teacher says otherwise. The teachers need to see the students when they are taking attendance and during instruction.

3. The Chat feature during Google Meet is for asking questions of the teachers or answering their questions. It is not for the students to talk to each other during class.

Chromebook Problems? Please follow these steps:

If a student is having tech problems with the device, you, or a parent/guardian, should send an email to techsupport@badger.k12.wi.us. Please include the words "Virtual Student Tech Help" in the subject line. Explain what is happening in as much detail as possible, including what you were doing when the problem happened. We will respond with some things to try but ultimately you may have to bring the device to Chromebook Corner. If we cannot fix it quickly we will issue a loaner while yours is getting repaired. We configure the loaners on a case by case basis so they can wait while we do that or come back.

SPOOF SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS

We are currently experiencing spoof social media accounts that seem to be posting inappropriate things about Lake Geneva Middle School and our students. The accounts are often using our school logo. The sites are using words such as “tea”, “shade” and “drama” and are encouraging students to gossip and share secrets about one another.

This is happening not only to Lake Geneva Middle School but schools across the country. We have been informed that some of these accounts may be operated by individuals who are not in our community or even in the United States. If a student submits gossip to one of these accounts, they're effectively identifying themselves to the unknown account holder as students in our school and residents in our community.

While we are working with law enforcement and taking cybersecurity measures to try and resolve this matter. We encourage you to speak with your child about the dangers of these types of sites.

MISCELLANEOUS INFO TO KNOW

BREAKFAST: Breakfast is served starting at 7:00 a.m. The cafeteria area is only open to students purchasing breakfast.

LATE BUSES - NEW THIS YEAR:

Late buses run as follows:

3:30 p.m. - Tuesdays and Thursdays

4:15 p.m. - Mondays through Thursdays

LATEX BALLOONS: We have students with latex allergies so please, no latex balloons.

WATER BOTTLES: Students are allowed to have water bottles during the school day - WATER ONLY. Please, no other liquids.

Chromebook Care

Parents and Students: While we understand that accidents happen, it is important that students do their best to properly care for their chromebook. Should something happen to the chromebook, students should complete a Chromebook Repair Request form and take it, along with their chromebook, to the LMC.
