AFTER SCHOOL STUDY LAB

Study Lab will take place every Tuesday from 2:55-4:15 p.m. and Thursdays from 2:55-3:30 p.m. Students will be able to stay after with a teacher from their house to get extra support or make up missing work. A late bus will be available.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ANNOUNCEMENTS

SKI CARDS: Students and parents, the first 6 Fridays of 2020 will be family ski nights at Alpine Valley. Mr. Turk will have lift tickets during the week for purchase to ski Friday nights. The lift ticket will cost $20 for any age person. This is a good opportunity to ski as a family. You can also purchase these at the hill on Friday nights in the ski school area. Look for either Mr. Strobel or myself. We will be there between 4-6 pm on those Friday nights. No card is necessary for these nights. So come out and hit the slopes for cheap!

DANCE TEAM: Dance Team practice will begin on Monday, January 27, 2020 at 2:45 - 4:05 and will take place every Monday through Thursday. We are excited to begin a new routine for our performances at the girls basketball games.

7th Grade Sledding Incentive : Seventh grade is starting their Responsibility Challenge Incentive for sledding. The sledding incentive trip will be at Grand Geneva sledding hill on Tuesday, February 4 (weather permitting). Students will earn the trip by showing positive responsibility habits, which is tracked through a point system. Students earn points each class by showing responsibility for their behavior, being on time, and being prepared for class (which includes completed homework).

SOUL CLUB : Meeting dates for remainder of year: February 3, February 24, March 9, March 30, April 20

GSA CLUB: Meeting dates for the remainder of year: January 27, February 17, March 2, March 16, April 6, April 27

CHESS CLUB: Chess Club will meet on Wednesday, January 29 from 2:45-4:15 p.m.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: 7th/8th grade girls basketball starts on January 30th until 5:00 pm. All girls need to have a physical on file in the office and their forms filled out out by this date. Please see the practice/game calendar brought home by your daughter for the practice times and details.

SOLO AND ENSEMBLE

Congratulations to all of the 6th grade students who performed at Solo & Ensemble last evening! Job well done! YOU should be proud! Thank you to the many volunteers who kept the night flowing and our outstanding judges.

The following students participated in the District Spelling Bee held on January 14th at Lake Geneva Middle School: Noah Baker, Antonio Dominguez, Evelyn Garcia-Martinez, Leslie Flores-Cruz, Logan Stoffel, Jordan Benitez, Alyssa Detkowski, Jonathan Zinkowich, Baily Dominguez, Elizabeth Krober, Jordan Samonig, and Abigael Tieman.

Congratulations to the winners: 1st place – Abigael Tieman, 2nd place – Jordan Benitez, 3rd place – Noah Baker,and 4th place – Alyssa Detkowski.

Good luck to Abigael and Jordan as they represent Lake Geneva School District at the Regional Bee!

MATH MEET

Twelve LGMS students attended the Southern Lake Advanced Learners Network Math Meet on January 14th at UW Whitewater. Four students from each grade level attended and completed individual and team tasks. LGMS students had a strong showing and we are very proud of the work and time they put into getting ready for this event. Congratulations to Kamryn, Rose, Lexi, Joslyn, Dominic, Hunter, Steven, Logan, Gavin, Cameron, Oliver, and Owen!

8th grade made gel worms from two natural materials as they learn about how synthetic materials are made.

ORCHESTRA FUN

The Freshman Orchestra came over to play with the LGMS 8th grade orchestra. It was so fun to have last year's 8th graders back in their old orchestra room and for the current students to get to play with them and hear about what BHS orchestra is like. We hope all current 8th grade orchestra students sign up next year! The registration window opens soon. Watch your email for more info from me regarding Frequently Asked Questions, concert dates, etc.

CHARACTER AWARD WINNERS

Congratulations to our Character Award Winners! Students were given Student Character Tickets for being respectful, responsible, and being a positive citizen of LGMS. Tickets were placed in various apparel boxes and winners were drawn. The winning students received LGMS apparel from the PTO. Thank you, PTO!

About our LOCAL Solo and Ensemble:

District (WSMA) Solo and Ensemble: Grade7/8 (select 6th graders) : District Solo and Ensemble is a music festival for all 7th and 8th grade Band, Choir, and Orchestra participants. This festival is also open to surrounding school districts and Badger High School. All students will select a solo and/or ensemble that they will perform for an adjudicator. That solo must be from the approved WSMA list. The adjudicator will provide written and verbal critique, and a score for the performance. This is a required LGMS music event. The festival takes place from 8 a.m – 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 7th at Lake Geneva Middle School, but students are only required to attend their event(s). Friends and family members are allowed to watch any of the performances. All of the music students have received their musical selections and should be working diligently on preparing for this event.

State (WSMA) Solo and Ensemble: Select students : If students perform a Class A solo and/or ensemble at the District Festival and receive a 1* they will advance to the State Solo and Ensemble. This is held in the spring. Usually only high school students play Class A and make it to State.

MISCELLANEOUS INFO TO KNOW

BREAKFAST: Breakfast is served starting at 7:00 a.m. The cafeteria area is only open to students purchasing breakfast.

STUDENT PICK UP: If you need to pick up your student during the day, we ask that you please send a note with your student in the morning with a time that you will be picking them up. That way we can write them a pass to hand to their teacher when it's time to leave. This avoids having to disrupt classes by calling in looking for a student.

BUS PASSES: If your student will be riding the bus home with a friend, please send a letter in the morning indicating who he/she will be going home with. We will then issue a bus pass.

LATE BUSES - NEW THIS YEAR:

Late buses run as follows:

3:30 p.m. - Tuesdays and Thursdays

4:15 p.m. - Mondays through Thursdays

5:30 p.m. - Mondays through Fridays

LATEX BALLOONS: We have students with latex allergies so please, no latex balloons.

WATER BOTTLES: Students are allowed to have water bottles during the school day - WATER ONLY. Please, no other liquids.

Chromebook Care

Parents and Students: While we understand that accidents happen, it is important that students do their best to properly care for their chromebook. Should something happen to the chromebook, students should complete a Chromebook Repair Request form and take it, along with their chromebook, to the LMC.

AROUND THE DISTRICT

On Saturday, February 8th from 9 am - 5 pm, Badger High School has partnered with Verlo Mattress in Lake Geneva to do a Mattress Sale Fundraiser. 20% of all sales that day will go to the Badger High School Scholarship Fund. Since your students are all Future Badgers, we would love it if you could get involved in this fundraiser! We are asking for your help and in return, our school will receive $$$ too!

How do you help? Simple share the coupons with your friends and family. If they are interested in a new mattress, have them head to Verlo Mattress in Lake Geneva on February 8th between 9 am - 5 pm and show the coupon (photo of coupon or actual coupon will work!). It is as easy as that!

FOR EACH REFERRAL WHO BUYS A MATTRESS SET BADGER EARNS AT LEAST $10

If 3+ referrals buy a mattress set you earn $60

If 5+ referrals buy a mattress set you earn $150

If 8+ referrals buy a mattress set you earn $300

If 10 referrals buy a mattress set you earn $500

PLUS An additional $25 for each referral over 10!
