Women Take Center Stage in Orchestra's WomenNOW Series

Rising star and Curtis Institute of Music graduate Karina Canellakis (pictured) made her Philadelphia Orchestra debut as conductor on February 7. Two of the program's three pieces were by women composers: Work in Dialogue with Beethoven by Jessica Hunt and Lineage by Zosha Di Castri, which was written as a tribute to her grandmother. The concert was part of the ongoing Philadelphia Orchestra WomenNOW concert series fe aturing women composers, conductors, instrumentalists, vocalists and thinkers in programs that showcase rarely heard works of the past and inspiring music of today.
