The Next Chapter of DEI Work: Targeted Universalism & Building Strategic Bridges


DEI work is simultaneously the biggest “threat” to democracy and the biggest opportunity to save democracy.


Using a Siena Research Institute/Tangible Development national study investigating Americans’ opinions about “DEI”, the acronym, compared with their opinions of values and outputs of diversity, equity, and inclusion work, TD


Presenters will share findings from a nationally representative online sample of 3,003 Americans, pre and post the 2024 Presidential Election. Utilizing the outputs from the survey, participants will learn and discuss potential strategies using Targeted Universalism and building bridges across groups to save and strengthen DEI work in the years to come.


In this session, workshop participants will:

  • Learn how to advance DEI work using DEI values and outputs across different groups using
  •  Targeted Universalism
  • Measure and Calculate risks and rewards for doing DEI work at the issue level
  • Discuss how to bring people together amidst the tumultuous political times
