How Women Veterans Can Get the Civilian Jobs They Deserve
Females are America’s fastest-growing Veteran population segment and can become one of its most valued workforce additions. Thirty years ago, women represented just 3% of our Veteran population. Today, about 10% of Veterans are women and our current active US Military consists of 19% women. Unfortunately, as outlined in a recent paper by The Call of Duty Endowment (CODE), How Women Veterans Can Get the Civilian Jobs They Deserve, women are more than twice as likely to be unemployed 6 months after completing their service than male Veterans. This stands in stark contrast to their growing importance for national defense.
The research outlines how women Veterans are an undervalued resource, uncovering several common barriers they face in their search for post-military employment: starting over (often near the bottom), asking for help, child care, and not self-identifying as Veterans to name a few. As the largest private funder of Veteran employment, CODE believes each and every Veteran, female or male, out of work or underemployed, represents a lost opportunity for our society. They empower organizations like Still Serving Veterans (SSV) to offer career and transition support when their time in uniform is complete.

Currently, SSV is supporting about 2,500 clients, 23% of whom are female, in their search for a meaningful civilian career. We are honored that these female Veterans are asking for assistance with their transition. It can be a trying time, but we can relate, half of SSV's Career & Transition Counselors are Women, and Veterans themselves. They bring compassion and first-hand knowledge to the military-to-civilian switch.

MISSION MOMENT: How Your Support is Helping Veterans
Jumping the Gap

“SSV aided in building my LinkedIn profile and helped me to gain hundreds of connections. One of those connections directly resulted in me securing an internship through the DOD SkillBridge program while still in uniform. Upon my USAF retirement, I was immediately offered full-time employment with the company I had interned with. I did not have to experience a gap in employment which had a direct and positive impact on my and my family's financial security. Having a job also vastly decreased the amount of stress and mental burden associated with leaving the military and finding a new way of life.” – Jennifer, U.S. Air Force Veteran
All of our services are offered at no cost to the Veterans and employers we serve through the generosity of individuals, corporations, community partners and other benefactors like The Call of Duty Endowment.
Empowering Veterans to find fulfilling post-military careers and build meaningful lives they love.
