Empowering Women And Children Impacted By The Criminal Justice System

I still remember the women I left behind so many years ago in prison. One of them, Deborah, who I went to college and church with, (pictured below courtesy of photographer Sara Bennett) has been denied release over and over again like so many others.

These are women and grandmothers who can't change why they became incarcerated, but have proven they deserve parole consideration. Many have completed college, taught younger women and achieved tremendous personal growth while incarcerated. And yet this is not enough to be granted freedom.

This is why we've chosen to join the collective movement across the state to support parole reform. The People's Campaign for Parole Justice will save lives, save tax dollars and support children.

We need your help to ensure lawmakers prioritize these needed reforms, which will have a major impact to mend families back together throughout Long Island and beyond.
On Wednesday, April 13th, join us and others across New York as we rally in support of parole Justice. We'll see you at the Long Island event - location provided with RSVP. Sign up here.

Next, on Monday, April 25th, we will join The People’s Campaign for Parole Justice, New York State Coalition Against Sexual Assault, Common Justice and some of the state’s leading victim/survivor groups for an advocacy day in Albany in support of the Elder Parole, Fair & Timely Parole, and Fair Access to Victim Compensation bills.

Together, these three bills promote pathways to redemption for incarcerated people and their families, access to key resources for victims and survivors, and a framework for what real healing and safety can look like. Food, transportation, and materials will be provided.

Can you join us on April 25th? RSVP HERE and share this message with your colleagues, friends, and neighbors. We’d be so grateful for your support.

We look forward to working with you to advocate for a more equitable tomorrow.

In solidarity,

Serena & the New Hour Team
