Gas-to-Power Specialist: Deloitte is seeking an experienced, full-time Gas-to-Power Specialist to be based in West Africa. The Gas-to-Power Specialist will leverage USAID’s Gas Roadmap and Power Africa Toolkit to focus on: (i) country-specific gas-to-power road-mapping; (ii) advisory support to specific transaction/infrastructure opportunities; (iii) improving public sector planning capacity; (iv) developing new financing/guarantee tools to reduce the risk of gas supply disruptions; and (v) tie-ins to regional transmission plans. Distributed Renewable Energy Call for Applications
The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) announced a call for applications from private companies seeking financing for distributed renewable energy-related investments. Special consideration will be given to projects that provide energy solutions related to the COVID-19 response and those that advance DFC’s 2X Women’s Initiative by promoting women’s economic empowerment. Opportunities will be evaluated as part of a rigorous evaluation process upon the discretion of the DFC, and applications are due on June 18, 2021. Women in Renewable Energy in Africa Initiative
International Financial Cooperation’s (IFC) Energy2Equal program recently launched the Women in Renewable Energy in Africa Initiative (W-REA) to promote women’s career advancement at leadership level and develop a pipeline of women leaders in the renewable energy sector in sub-Saharan Africa. ADB and Canada Create $104M Gender Responsive Climate Fund for Africa.
The Canada-African Development Bank Climate Fund (CACF) is providing concessional loans to climate change projects with strong gender components. The African Development Bank will issue the $104.8 million fund to both sovereign and non-sovereign operations, plus a $7.9 million grant contribution for complementary technical assistance. Training Workshop hosted by Orrick and the Vance Center
The Cyrus R. Vance Center is pleased to make these legal training workshops focused on executing energy sector transactions, available to the WiAP network. The workshops will discuss the mechanics of Public-Private Partnership (P3) transactions, the pan-African legal and regulatory P3 landscape, and corruption prevention strategies. West African Girls in STEM Webinar
In celebration of Girls in Information and Communication Technology (#GirlsInICT) Day, Power Africa held a “West African Girls in STEM” webinar in which they reframed many of the prevailing myths about the participation of women and girls in STEM studies and careers. On their webinar, Power Africa highlighted the achievements of two women professionals who have demonstrated success in the STEM field, as well as two female university level students whose academic accomplishments are paving the way for their futures as leaders in the field. Power Africa Annual Report 2020
Power Africa’s 2020 annual report highlights gender equality initiatives that create opportunities for women to be energy leaders, workers, and empowered consumers. The report also documents Power Africa’s effort to strengthen the energy sector in sub-Saharan African through the following initiatives: 1. Promoting renewable energy to increase energy access; 2. Congratulations to WiAP member and Power Africa Gender Advisor, Denise Mortimer, for her participation in the Women in Renewable Energy in Africa Initiative (W-REA) launch. Denise spoke about diverse themes at the intersection of gender and energy, including a discussion of women as consumers, service providers, and entrepreneurs in the energy value chain.

WiAP member, Fridah Nkunde, participated in NARUC’s Women in Energy Regulation Internship Program, and completed an internship at the Zambian Energy Regulation Board (ERB). Upon completion of her internship, Fridah was offered a full-time position as a Renewable Energy Engineer at ERB. Congratulations to Fridah for her outstanding accomplishments!
