Work with the World Bank Ethiopia Electrification Program (ELEAP)!
ELEAP is looking for a qualified firm to scale program work in the off grid sector by fostering female entrepreneurship, expanding access to finance for women entrepreneurs and consumers, and supporting women to engage in productive and income-generating activities in the sector. The firm will support key gender priorities and project design work under the World Bank Access to Electricity and Lighting in Ethiopia program. The consultancy will help ELEAP build on four years of progress closing gender gaps in the energy sector in Ethiopia. To view the consultancy, firms must first register with the World Bank Group’s eConsultant2 system. Once registered, firms can access the details of this solicitation by searching for Selection #1272548. Submissions are due February 15, 2021.
2021 Nigeria Off-Grid Energy Challenge
On January 15, USADF and All On officially opened the 2021 Nigeria Off-Grid Energy Challenge. The Challenge identifies and helps scale innovative off-grid solutions to “power up” unserved and underserved areas in Nigeria. Successful applicants are eligible to win up to $100,000 in blended finance per enterprise. The nine winners of the 2020 Nigeria Off-grid Energy Challenge include two women-led companies, Ashdam Solar Company and Salpha Energy. Apply for the 2021 Challenge by February 28.
Survey: Gender Inequality in the Renewable Energy Sector in Sub-Saharan Africa
The International Finance Corporation’s Energy2Equal program seeks to combat gender inequality in the renewable energy sector in sub-Saharan Africa, and increase research to support the business case for women’s increased participation in the sector. Energy2Equal recently launched a survey to collect data on employment patterns in the renewable energy sector of sub-Saharan Africa. Increasing access to robust data on workforce composition and existing policies will contribute to promoting a gender equal work environment in renewable energy private companies. Registration for SEforALL Youth Summit
Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) is hosting the first ever SEforALL Youth Summit on February 9-11, 2021. This virtual summit aims to educate, connect and inspire young global leaders to support a just and inclusive energy transition in line with the Paris Agreement on climate. Participants will have the opportunity to network with like-minded peers from around the world and interact with stakeholders from government, the UN, businesses and international organizations. 2020 Africa Queen of Energy Award
The 2020 Africa Queen of Energy award ceremony and conference was held in December with the objective of inspiring, recognizing, and rewarding women who have made strides in the energy sector across Africa. This year WiAP member, Winfred Mutinda, won the 2020 Philanthropy Award. Congratulations to Winfred for her outstanding and continuous impact in the energy space and the community!

Updated Best Practices Framework Now Available!
USAID’s Engendering Utilities program’s updated Delivering Gender Equality: A Best Practices Framework for Male-Dominated Industries, provides organizations with the practical resources they need to advance gender equality in the workplace. Engendering Utilities has updated and revised this toolkit, adding new best practices, hundreds of new resources, and new chapters on intersectionality, diversity, inclusion, and gender equality during times of crisis. The publication highlights 17 case studies of ARE members; making the business case for integrating gender dimensions across energy business models, programmes, and investments. Power Africa: PAYGO Financial Modeling Tool
The Financial Modeling Tool for Pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) Energy Access Companies guides internal financial management processes. This Tool is planned for use by companies evaluating PAYGO technology and business models. The Tool is designed for solar home system (SHS), productive use of energy companies and illustrative use in connection with internal financial management processes, such as liquidity management, unit economics analysis, and forecasting.
