Digital Dialogue: "Lights On Health" Powering Healthcare in SSA  October 26, 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm GMT Access to reliable electricity is critical for delivering essential healthcare services, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. To address the widespread need for health facility electrification in SSA, Power Africa is working with private companies, other donors, and non-governmental organizations to ensure sustainable delivery of electricity to health clinics. This panel will explore the efforts of the public and private sectors to improve energy access for health facilities in sub-Saharan Africa. Panelists will discuss ways in which health facility electrification can be improved to sustainably and reliably deliver power to those who need it most. Register here.  New Women’s Professional Network Launched  POWERHer: POWERHer: Power Africa-supported Women in Rwandan Energy (WIRE) program helped launch POWERHer, the national network of women in energy in Rwanda. POWERHer brings together 104 women working in the Rwandan energy sector, from senior managers to recent graduates, representing public and private energy companies, and energy sector utilities. WIRE will support and strengthen the capacities of POWERHer through strategic global and national networking, mentorship programs, and outreach activities. Tanzania Women in Energy Development (TaWoED): Power Africa’s East Africa Energy Program supported the launch of Tanzania Women in Energy Development (TaWoED). Please visit the network’s website to learn more about their work to support the growing professional community of women in Tanzania’s energy sector.

PUBLICATIONS

Blog: Strengthening East Africa’s Energy Sector Through Gender Equity Power Africa assessment found that women are currently underrepresented in the East African energy sector workforce. Only 19 percent and 21 percent of formal positions in the energy sector are held by women in Rwanda and Kenya, respectively. Climate Week NYC - Powering an Equitable, Sustainable, and Just Global Energy Transition WiAP member and Power Africa West Africa Energy Program’s Deputy Chief of Party, Adaku Ufere participated in Powering an Equitable, Sustainable and Just Global Energy Transition on September 2rd, a virtual panel organized by Columbia University’s Centre on Global Energy Policy, Women in Energy Program. Panelists shared their contributions to the energy transition and engaged in a candid discussion about the barriers to women’s equal participation that must be addressed in order to ensure a just and sustainable transition.
