National Women in Construction Week
March 7-13, 2021
This annual event, which promotes the community of construction women, is designed to lift up women and support their place within the industry.
We are proud to honor the women here, this week and every week. Casella Construction would not be the same without their talent, passion and dedication.

Safety Topic: Hand Safety at Work
More workplace injuries involve hands than any other body part, except for the back.

More than one million workers experience a serious hand injury in the workplace every year. Cuts, lacerations, and punctures—which often happen on the hands—are one of the top three types of injuries that keep people away from work.

Cutting tool blades now come in many different materials with safety and ergonomic features. Tools that are ergonomically designed reduce hand fatigue and overuse injuries. A clean and clutter-free work area and using safe cutting practices will help in reducing injury. Always remember to wear a leather protector over a rubber insulating glove to provide protection from cuts, abrasions, and punctures. To avoid smashes, crushes, and pinches, stay mindful. Assess the work area for objects that could fall and stay alert to anything with a hinge.

Never put your hand or fingers into a space until you can determine that it is safe. If you know you could be exposed to harmful surfaces or substances, make sure to wear the appropriate gloves.

February Good Catch Winner of the Month!
Bill Grant identified a frozen overhang on a sand pile, and pointed it out during a recent safety meeting. He was tasked with fixing it immediately after the meeting, making sure the risk was eliminated.
Great job, Bill - thank you for your diligence!
