Talk about a roller coaster …
Dear Ladies,

Yet again, COVID-19 has upended everyone’s plans, practices and traditions including WIP’s. As a result of this constant repositioning, I would like to share some of our thinking on the WIP theme for 2021.

First I want to thank those who responded to our May newsletter request for ideas on our next theme. As it happened, your thoughtful suggestions matched with the theme concepts being put forward by the Grants Committee, as well as the interests of your Advisory Board. 

All of these thoughts revolve around addressing the long-term damage that will surely follow COVID-19. Therefore, the intent is that we would award three to four Major Impact Grants of $20,000 - $25,000 each to new initiatives that could truly mitigate the fallout of this pandemic. This will also be the first exclusive set of major impact grants awarded by WIP. The grants are significant, but so will be the long term need.

Throughout our history, WIP has granted $601,000 to 87 nonprofits in Beaufort County. What a legacy! And having previously chaired Grants, I can assure you that every grant is rigorously vetted to ensure your investment in WIP is diligently reviewed without prejudice or bias.

This is my last letter to you as Chair of Women In Philanthropy, and having been a WIP Founding Member, it has been my distinct honor to serve as your Chair,

Please welcome Elizabeth Loda as your new Chair. She has been a fervent advocate for WIP, who is also a prior Chair of the Grants Committee. I know you will welcome her and support her leadership as you have mine.

I cannot be more proud of my association with all of you. Strong, willful and thoughtful are just some of the characteristics of our WIP peers, not to mention generous and community minded.

I hope you see the value in your WIP membership as I do. Let’s ALL keep up this very good work.

Diana Jaffe Art and Home Studio Tour

Diana Jaffe’s paintings span a large range of size and media. Her use of handmade paints, using semi-precious stones such as lapis lazuli and gold leaf, result in a stunning effect. Some pieces have topaz embedded in the paint. Her work has been shown locally in Camellia Art Gallery.

Meet Our 2020 Grant Recipients
While we have not yet had the opportunity to have our Annual Meeting Grants Luncheon, we thought we should share the good news of the 2020 WIP awardees. The following are the 2020 Grant Awards funded for programs that meet the 2020 WIP theme: “Providing Enrichment and Readiness for At-Risk Children."

  • Able Foundation: $5,000, "Beaufort County Bright Beginnings"
  • Arts Center of Coastal Carolina: $9,000, "Performing Arts Program for At-Risk Youth
  • Born to Read: $6,000, "Books for Babies"
  • Boys & Girls Club of Bluffton: $15,000, "Explorers: Learning for Life"
  • Boys & Girls Club of the Lowcountry (HHI): $3,000, "Creative Movements"
  • Child Abuse Prevention Association (CAPA): $10,000, "Equipping Families for At-Risk Children"
  • Children's Cancer Partners of the Carolinas: $12,000, "Beaufort County Childhood Cancer Safety Net"
  • Hilton Head Recreation Association: $12,000, "Therapeutic Recreation"
  • Second Helpings: $1,800, "K-12 Food Rescue Program"
  • Women of Faith and Power Ministries: $4,000, "At-Risk Children - Better Ready for Tomorrow"

UPDATE: WIP Annual Meeting Grants Luncheon
As you know, the Annual Luncheon has been rescheduled several times due to venue availability. The operating status of the Colleton River Club, where our event is scheduled, has been unpredictable due to COVID-19 concerns. We are currently exploring our options for a rescheduled date or alternative format. We will let you know as soon as a decision has been reached. Thank you for your patience!

Your current support and commitment to WIP's mission are greatly appreciated, and have meant the world to thousands of beneficiaries that have been impacted by our grants. 
 
WIP would ask that you please consider a bequest to Women in Philanthropy when you are updating your will or trust. A bequest will only further enhance your ability to be a Force for Good ... Forever.
