Have You Gotten Your Flu Shot?
|
Fall is here! Not only is it time to put out your jack-o-lantern, but it is also time to schedule your 2018-2019 flu vaccine! Did you know that if you have heart disease you are at increased risk of complications from influenza such as pneumonia, respiratory failure, heart attack and even death?
A study recently released by the Journal of the American Medical Association Internal Medicine showed that individuals who received the flu vaccine were:
- 36% less likely to experience a heart attack, stroke, heart failure or death from cardiac-related causes; and
- 55% less likely to suffer a cardiac event after recently experiencing a heart attack or stroke.
The Center for Disease Control recommends a flu vaccine for everyone over the age of six (6) months. Flu vaccines are safe for most people and are strongly recommended for those who live with or are caring for someone who has heart disease or other vulnerable health conditions. Check with your healthcare provider if needed before getting a flu vaccine. Help your family, friends and co-workers stay healthy this winter!
