MARCH 2019 NEWSLETTER
Celebrating Women's History Month
Hello!

The team at SAHARA appreciates firsthand the contributions, value, and potential of our community members, allies, and especially OUR SURVIVORS .

We are grateful for our predecessors that paved the way for us in the struggle for gender equality and the fight against gender-based violence. SAHARA is proud to represent a rich legacy of women leaders, activists, and social workers from all over South Asia, throughout the diaspora, and here in America as well.

In an effort to support survivors of all forms of abuse, we stand in solidarity with all those women and male allies working towards social justice and gender equality. There is still so much work that needs to be done.

Please continue to support our efforts in assisting survivors of abuse by donating today.

SAHARA IN THE NEWS
SHOWBIZ INDIA TV

SAHARA's very own Board Members, Dr. Seema Arora (psychologist) and Dr. Rubina Najeeb (psychiatrist) talk about social and cultural issues and how Domestic Violence affects the emotional well-being of victims and survivors on Showbiz India TV.
In the South Asian community we have a very strong culture with strong values, which is very positive as we can see in the success of all South Asians. At the same time, when these very belief systems become distorted because of rigidity and not able to have any flexibility with changing gender roles and changing lifestyles, then they in fact become the breeding ground for this violence."
-Dr. Seema Arora
