A Word from Mark

Dear Friends,

Every March, I find myself reflecting on the extraordinary thread of courage that runs through this organization's history and through the lives of the people we are privileged to serve. Radiant Futures was born in 1976 from the conviction that no woman should face violence alone.

What began as a six-bed shelter, opened by a group of determined women who refused to look away, has grown into a comprehensive community of care that has walked alongside more than 200,000 survivors over nearly five decades. This Women's History Month, we celebrate that legacy and the bold, resilient spirit that has carried it forward.

We also celebrate the survivors who inspire us every single day. Women like Sofia, whose story you will find in this newsletter, remind us why this work is not just meaningful, it is essential. Their strength, determination, and willingness to rebuild are the heartbeat of everything we do.

And as we look back with gratitude, we are also looking forward with excitement.

I hope you will join us for Back to the Radiant Futures Ball on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the beautiful Pacific Club for an evening unlike anything we have done before. This is more than a party. It is our opportunity to come together, celebrate how far we have come, and invest in what comes next for survivors and families across Orange County.

From our founders' courageous first step to every life we touch today, this organization has always moved forward because of people who believe that a safer, more compassionate community is worth fighting for. You are those people.

Thank you for being part of this story. I cannot wait to celebrate with you.

In Gratitude,

Mark

Sofia's Story: Finding Her Light

Sofia arrived at our shelter with nothing but the clothes on her back and a heart full of uncertainty. Behind her were two years of physical, emotional, and financial abuse. In front of her, a future so unclear it was hard to imagine at all.

When law enforcement responded to a crisis at her home and an Emergency Protective Order was issued, something inside her found the strength to reach out. That phone call, made in one of the hardest moments of her life, changed everything.

She came to us alone. No family to call. No friend to sit beside her. Just a quiet, aching hope that somehow things could be different.

Rooted in Courage, Growing Toward the Future

During Women’s History Month, we pause to honor the women who dared to imagine a better world and then built it. At Radiant Futures, that story feels deeply personal because our organization was born from exactly that kind of courage.

In 1976, a local chapter of the National Organization for Women looked at Orange County and refused to accept what they saw: women being harmed in their own homes with nowhere to turn. So, they did something about it. With determination and a six-bed shelter, they created what would become the first domestic violence agency in Orange County and only the third in the entire United States. That founding act of advocacy is woven into everything we do today.

Great Scott! The Future is Calling.
