Barbara Walters - Tell Me Everything, Film Screening and Discussion
A compelling documentary portrait of trailblazing journalist Barbara Walters, whose groundbreaking career reshaped broadcast journalism. The screening is followed by a discussion exploring women in media, power, access, and the cost of being first, moderated by longtime journalist and former Laguna Beach Independent editor Andrea Adelson.
The Trial of Ayn Rand, Play Reading
A staged reading that examines the ideas, contradictions, and cultural influence of Ayn Rand. This provocative theatrical work invites audiences to wrestle with philosophy, individualism, and legacy, featuring performances by favorites Ava Burton and Ben Farrell.
Women’s Forum, Panel Discussion on Women’s Issues and Rights
A live, community-centered forum bringing together accomplished women from education, civic leadership, the arts, cultural exchange, and creative media, including Danielle Roedersheimer, Karyn Philippsen, Kathy Jones, and Benny Laurence, moderated by Barbara McMurray. This conversation-forward evening is designed to encourage listening, dialogue, and shared understanding across generations and perspectives. This gathering is offered not as an endpoint, but as a starting place, a space to listen, connect, and help shape how this conversation grows going forward.
Silkwood, Film Screening and Discussion
Based on a true story, Silkwood follows a woman who risks everything to expose unsafe working conditions at a nuclear facility. This powerful film anchors a discussion on whistleblowers, moral courage, corporate accountability, and the personal cost of standing up for truth.
An Afternoon with Marisa Silver, Mary Coin
Acclaimed author Marisa Silver joins us for a special book talk about her celebrated novel Mary Coin. Inspired by Dorothea Lange’s iconic photograph Migrant Mother, the novel reexamines how history is remembered and who gets left out. Silver will be interviewed by writer and book reviewer Randy Kraft. Presented in partnership with Laguna Beach Books, this event concludes the month-long Women’s History Month celebration.
About the Series
Together, these events form a cohesive Women’s History Month program that honors women who challenged norms, shaped culture, and expanded public discourse, while also reflecting on the ongoing challenges women face today. Each event stands alone, yet collectively they offer a deeper and more meaningful exploration of women’s history through art, conversation, and community.
With Gratitude About Women’s History Month programming at the Laguna Beach Cultural Arts Center is generously sponsored by Ann Quilter and Charlie Quilter for the second year in a row. We are deeply grateful for their continued support, not only of Women’s History Month, but of the arts and cultural life throughout the Laguna Beach community.
