University launches new Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging website

Cal State LA has launched a new Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging website highlighting the University’s efforts to nurture a welcoming and inclusive campus where students, faculty, and staff thrive, and community is honored and cultivated. The website serves as a gateway to resources, information, events, and programs related to DEIB efforts on campus. It also includes a new webpage highlighting the University’s commitment to its role as a Hispanic-Serving Institution. You can explore the DEIB website directly by visiting calstatela.edu/diversity, and you can also access it from the Cal State LA homepage or the Cal State LA website’s main menu by clicking “Diversity.” If you have questions, want to get involved, or know of a valuable resource or event that should be included on the website, please contact the DEIB staff.

New department celebrates Women’s History Month with open house week

To celebrate Women’s History Month, the recently-launched Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies is hosting an Open House Week from Monday, March 13, through Monday, March 20. The department, which was previously a program within the Department of Liberal Studies, was launched in fall 2022 and is housed in the College of Arts and Letters. Save time with EagleQ

Students visiting One-Stop Financial Services and Golden Eagle One Card Office can now utilize EagleQ, a virtual queuing system for in-person services. Students can join a virtual line before heading to the Student Services Building or sign up on the first floor when they arrive. Students who provide their mobile numbers will receive a text when it’s their turn, or they can check the EagleQ monitors to see their place in the queue.

EagleCon 2023 to host the Art Directors Guild Imaginator Exhibition

EagleCon 2023 will host the Art Directors Guild Imaginator Exhibition from Friday, March 10, through Thursday, March 23, at the Luckman Gallery. EagleCon explores issues of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, identity, and representation in science fiction and fantasy across media. The exhibit will feature works by legendary creators honored with the EagleCon Imaginator Award. There will also be other EagleCon events offered both in-person and virtually. Nominate a WellBeingU Champion

Nominations are being accepted for this year’s WellBeingU Champion awards. The awards celebrate students, faculty, and staff who demonstrate extraordinary and innovative dedication to the well-being of others at Cal State LA. The WellBeingU Champions will receive a certificate of appreciation and a gift of $500, and will be honored at an event this spring. Completed nominations should be submitted by Friday, March 10. Self-nominations require at least one letter of support from another student, faculty, or staff member. Two letters are recommended. Andean Symposium to explore the Moche culture and beyond

Cal State LA’s Art History Society presents the inaugural Andean Symposium, “Questions of Life and Dean in the Moche Culture and Beyond,” on Saturday, March 11. The symposium will feature speakers whose research focuses on the Moche culture, which flourished along the northern coast and valleys of Peru in the Chicama and Trujillo Valleys, between 1 and 750 AD. This free event is organized as a homage to Walter Alva, one of the most distinguished archaeologists in Peru that worked and excavated in the Moche region for 45 years. Register online to attend the free symposium.

Distinguished Women Awards set for March 20

Join the Division of Student Life, University-Student Union, and Cross Cultural Centers in honoring a group of women faculty, staff, and administrators for their outstanding accomplishments at the 21st Cal State LA Distinguished Women Awards. The awards will be presented on Monday, March 20, at 12:30 p.m. in the Golden Eagle Ballroom. Check-in begins at 12 noon.

Luckman concert features Grammy winner Patti LaBelle

Known as the “godmother of soul,” Patti LaBelle will perform on Saturday, March 24, at 8 p.m. in the Luckman Theatre. She is a Grammy winner and legendary hit-maker. For tickets, call the Luckman Box Office at 323-343-6600 or purchase on the Ticketmaster website.

Dreamers Resource Center offers virtual UndocuAlly training

The Erika J. Glazer Family Dreamers Resource Center is offering a virtual training workshop that will prepare faculty and staff to be allies for undocumented students. Register online for the training on April 13. For details, visit the UndocuAlly training webpage

The web publication showcases professional activities and publications, as well as the awards received by our faculty and staff. In memoriam

John Eichinger, professor of education in the Division of Curriculum and Instruction, passed away on Jan. 3, 2023. A Cal State LA faculty since 1992, Eichinger was professionally active in the field of science teacher training and published numerous scholarly works. A celebration of life ceremony was held on Saturday, Feb. 11, in his memory.



Russell Young, who was an information technology specialist for the College of Education, passed away on Jan. 15, 2023. A Cal State LA alumnus, Young retired in 2021 after working at Cal State LA for more than three decades. A celebration of life ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 18, at 11:30 a.m. in the Evergreen Baptist Church in La Puente.
