A resource for families in Santa Cruz County | |
March arrived with roaring wind, rain, a blizzard and tons of snow! Will its departure be a little gentler?
I hope you avoided the blizzard last weekend, but if you like snow and the fun it offers there's an abundance waiting for you in the Sierras.
For those who eagerly await spring, it's already showing signs. Just take a walk around the neighborhood or venture into the mountain parks.
~ ~ ~
In March we recognize women in history. Some ask "Should we also celebrate men in history? I asked the question of the internet and it offered 144 million responses, which I skimmed but didn't go down that rabbit hole.
We recognize occasions and groups so as to raise awareness. Historically we humans have made a lot of progress over the millennia toward recognizing and elevating worthy persons, regardless of their various identities or affiliations. Regardless of visible, cultural or heritage identities, we are still working on recognizing and honoring persons of character, inner beauty, kindness, strength, talent, resilience, righteousness, leadership, creative thinking, achievement, etc.
This begins in our families, nuclear and extended, where we find our first heroes and heroines. As role models for our children, let's continue striving to be worthy of this awesome responsibility.
Have a little fun too. There isn't a month or day that doesn't celebrate accomplishment or progress of a worthy person, group or occasion. Month Celebrations and Day Celebrations.

Take the "littles" on a scavenger, color walk in the neighborhood or woods. Pick up paint samples or make your own. If they find a slug, take a photo and place it on the yellow section later! It's smart to discuss this plan ahead of time. Do the same for flowers and talk about why it's kind to leave them for others to see.
For the older children, and yourself, go forth with small, handy sketch books, colored pencils and a pencil sharpener.

Nature is already bringing forth early flowers in the mountain forests and especially in the exotic gardens in the UCSC Arboretum.

Advice from Kim Komando
Apple and Google let you create “burner emails” to save your inbox from spam. I choose this over giving out my real email address when I’m trying to score a coupon code or a site I’m just browsing requires contact info.
Got an Apple device? The Hide My Email feature lets you generate random email addresses when you fill out an online form or sign up for a website.
- It pops up when you fill out online forms or sign up for a website.
- Emails sent to the generated address go to your iCloud account.
Using Gmail? To create an alias in Gmail, add a + (plus sign) after your address, followed by the name of the site, like first.last+target@gmail.com. If you start getting spam, delete that email address. That’s it! Questions? Ask Kim.
