What Does Your Plan Look Like?
"If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there." - Lewis Carroll
One of the things that drives me batty is when people have dreams but don't (or won't) take the next step. For those of you who know me, you're not surprised to hear that I'm a "ready, fire, aim" kind of gal. Action isn't my problem. And, as I've matured, I've learned to slow down a bit and solidify a plan. But there will be a plan and there will be action.
As we look at what "Going Big" means to all of us, I ask you:...

What: October Women's Network Luncheon
When: Thursday, October 20
Where: 120 E Nifong Blvd Ste 104
Presenting Sponsor Plaza Dental Group, LLC
Welcome Sponsor Nancy Allison, Agent - Shelter Agency
Join speaker Beth Ziesenis for "A Day in the Life of a Nerdy Columbia Business Professional."
What would your day look like if you took the advice of all your nerdy friends and implemented the tech tools and apps they recommend to make your life easier? This fast-moving, laugh-filled session takes your hour by hour through a day in the life of a tech-savvy professional. You'll learn how a professional nerd solves a security crisis before 10 a.m., learns to make more of a lunch hour with an extra set of virtual hands, saves money on software before the staff meeting and brings the team together online before the day is done.
Women's Network also welcomes EPIC to the luncheon this month! The Emerging Professionals in Columbia is a division of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce comprised of more than 600 members. Their mission is to engage, develop and celebrate emerging leaders through professional growth opportunities and social interaction. Committee Spotlight: Strategic Planning
A task force to help with a new strategic plan for Women's Network is being created at the request of our Chair, Erica Pefferman. Over the course of this year, this task force will discuss the Women's Network mission, vision and values. Together we will engage in meaningful dialogue about Women's Network, who we are, what we believe and what we'd like to become. Our goal will be to create new mission, vision and values statements that are endorsed by Women's Network and the Chamber by the end of June. Deb Snellen, Director for Organization and Professional Development with University of Missouri Advancement, will be facilitating this process.

Donna Neil,
RE/MAX Boone Realty - Donna Neil
Donna Neil, Real Estate Professional with Remax/Boone Realty, was destined from birth to be a winner, as she was born in Winner, SD! If you asked any of Donna's customers, co-workers, friends and family, you would quickly learn that Donna has lived up to her birthplace's name, both p
rofessionally AND personally.
The majority of Donna's "growing up time" took place in Omaha, NE. Then, a month after Donna and her husband, Rex, were married, they were transferred to Amarillo, TX, then to Indianapolis, IN, then to Wichita, KS . . .Kansas City, and finally...in 1990...to Columbia.
Having moved to and having lived in so many different places, Donna learned what it takes to

Women's Network Ron Marley Scholarship
Each year Women's Network awards two scholarships to the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Columbia program in the name of Ron Marley.
Ron was a Shelter Insurance agent who was active in the community of Columbia and the Chamber. He understood the power of networking, and once he discovered what Women's Network had to offer, he had the courage to become the first male member. Ron, along with his wife Sharon and three of his four children, was tragically taken in a car accident in 1997. In his honor, Women's Network established a scholarship to send one Women's Network member through the Leadership Columbia program.
Leadership Columbia is one of the best ways for Chamber members to learn the ins and outs of local leadership and the unique challenges of our community. The program is limited to 30 participants who must demonstrate their desire through a vigorous application process.
Applications Due Friday, October 21 at 5 p.m.

Women's Network ATHENA Recipients Attend National Summit
Michele Spry, Billie Connally and Janice Schuerman, all ATHENA award winners, attended the 35th ATHENA International Leadership Conference in Lansing, Michigan. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance they got to ignite their passion for the common good and to learn new skills that can help create balance in leadership worldwide. All three will be able to take this knowledge back to engage and help the community work together to improve the quality of life in Columbia.
"Incredible women all over our country are doing amazing things and it's so inspiring to hear stories like this. For me, it's about recognizing the potential in other women and recognizing them throughout our communities," Spry said.
ATHENA Leadership Model is based on eight attributes which are live authentically, learn constantly, build relationships, foster collaboration, advocate fiercely, act courageously, give back and celebrate.

You Are a Badass - How To Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living An Awesome Life
Despite its somewhat edgy title, "You Are a Badass" is a fabulous read that simply must be relished by those ready to start living their best life. Rarely a book comes along that I demand everyone in my inner circle read, but this self-help bible is a true gem. Loaded with suggestions on believing in yourself, going for your dreams, and how to be happy until you get there, this book has become a staple on my bookshelf that I bring out over and over again to keep my mindset in optimal condition.
Jen, a success coach, guides us through exercises to help us find our true passion such as asking us what we are doing in
