Chair's Corner
Coffee, Connections and Choosing Happy
August was one of those months where I had to focus the majority of my time on the details of managing a business. People, deadlines, opportunities come floating into our lives and we are tasked with logically looking at them and making them all fit the best to our ability. As deadlines approach and we take on more responsibilities, we can often feel that

Committee Spotlight: Changing the Odds
|
The Changing the Odds Committee is gearing up for the next Landing the Job seminar on Saturday, October 28 at the Chamber of Commerce. The seminar is a day-long workshop of empowering women to confidently pursue their career goals. The committee hosts two seminars a year (spring and fall) – including a new Personal Finance seminar held this spring, covering topics like building a smart budget, understanding credit & banking, navigating financial aid & scholarships, and planning for the future. This fall the seminar will provide assistance for women who are looking for ways to improve their job prospects by providing education and resources about career development, resume and cover letter writing, interview dos and don’ts, and dressing for success. After a fashion show, attendees are given vouchers to shop for work- and interview-appropriate clothes at Upscale Resale.
The Committee wants to also give back to the Assistance League of Mid-Missouri, who operates Upscale Resale, by refreshing their inventory of gently-used professional clothing in preparation for the Fall Seminar. You, too, can help! The Changing the Odds Committee will be hosting a business clothing drive at the Women’s Network Luncheon on Thursday, September 21. We’ll be accepting gently-used business suits/clothing, shoes, jewelry, and accessories, so clean out your closet and bring them to the luncheon. All donations will be gifted to Upscale Resale.
Want to know more about Changing the Odds? Join us for our committee meetings on the fourth Thursday of each month at 8:30 a.m. at the Chamber, or email our co-chairs
