Dear Friends of the Foundation:

This year is off to an energetic start! Our Board held its planning meeting on Friday, August 25, and set some lofty goals. In 2023, we exceeded our highest ever scholarship awards by 20%.  The new Board set a goal for 2024 to award an additional 20% on top of that record!  We discussed increasing the amount of money provided to each individual recipient and facilitating an easier way for recipients to receive additional funds in subsequent years. Our Scholarship Committee is in the process of determining what each of those goals will look like and the processes to be implemented.  Our Fundraising Committee is looking into additional opportunities to meet our scholarship goals. Our Marketing and Outreach Committee has creative ideas for reaching deeper into our community and partnering with other organizations to provide training and mentoring services to our scholarship recipients.

Our Events Committee has some creative ideas for the coming year as well! As you are aware our June Scholarship Luncheon is our signature event, and the Holiday Luncheon is also quite popular. But those of you who are newer to our organization may not know that we used to host a traditional tea that our supporters always looked forward to. And now, after a short hiatus, the tea is coming back! Please follow us on our social media channels and watch for email announcements. You won’t want to miss a thing!

Next month, I will go into more detail regarding how you can continue to support us. But for now, I’ll ask you to please consider joining one of the committees referenced above. If interested and would like more details, please contact us via email.

You can also support us by attending one of our upcoming fundraising events. On Friday, September 22, from 4-8 pm, Lilly Pulitzer, Delray Beach, will host a "Sip & Shop" with a book signing by Lilly Leas Ferreira, granddaughter of Lilly Pulitzer. Ten percent of the day's sale proceeds will be donated to the Foundation (details to follow but Save the Date!). On Saturday morning, September 23, you can clear paper clutter at our Shred Event hosted by Total Shredding at the Foundation headquarters (see details below). Please talk both events up to your friends, family and colleagues. I look forward to seeing you there!

Have a restful Labor Day, and a fantastic September!

Sincerely,

Margaret

Our Rising Stars - Where Are They Now?

Pamela Gores was born and raised in Jupiter, Florida, and currently resides in Orlando. She graduated from Dwyer High School in 2016 where she participated in the Academy of Finance. While she never intended to pursue a degree in Finance, she felt strongly that this program would provide important life lessons.

Upon graduating from Dwyer, Pamela attended Palm Beach State College for three semesters, and then transferred to the University of Central Florida where she received her degree in Writing and Rhetoric. For as long as she can remember, she wanted to pursue a career in the journalism field.

While in college, she worked on campus publications and had internships with Imprint, a UCF student magazine, and Convergence Rhetoric, a peer-reviewed online research journal at UCF. She is currently working full time as a compliance editor at Full Sail University. She also freelances for a local publication, The Direct, as the Managing Editor of copy.

Pamela received scholarships from The Women’s Red Apple Foundation in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. Regarding this support, Pamela states, “I was insanely fortunate enough to receive scholarships four years in a row, which really helped ease the financial burden of college. To have a group of women from my hometown backing me was incredible. I am the first generation in my family to attend college and my parents were so proud! In fact, they attended the Scholarship Luncheon one year on my behalf when I was unable to make it.”

We look forward to watching you continue to rise in the journalism field, Pamela!

AN EASY WAY TO SUPPORT US AT NO COST TO YOU!

Do you have empty printer cartridges or toner cartridges that you just throw away? DON'T!!

We are part of the Staples Recycling Program where we receive credit for each cartridge that we turn in to them and, in turn, we use that credit to purchase our office supplies.

If you would like to donate your used cartridges to us, please contact us and we will make arrangements to get them.

Thank you!!
