Spotlight on Scholarship Recipient Alexis Gatson

In 2016, the Women’s Scholarship Foundation was pleased to award Alexis Gatson with a scholarship as she pursued her education. Recently, Alexis shared the following update with us: “As a non-traditional student and mother of three, my educational journey has been one of resilience and determination.” She now holds a degree in Political Science and a Master's in Business Administration and is employed with the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.

Alexis said, “Receiving the scholarship was a pivotal moment in my journey. It provided the financial relief I needed to focus on my studies and reduced the pressures that often accompany being a working parent and student. Beyond the financial support, it symbolized a vote of confidence in my potential. This support enabled me to complete my education and build a career where I can thrive while making meaningful contributions. Today, I stand as proof that with determination, a support system, and opportunities like the scholarship, it’s possible to overcome obstacles and achieve success.”

“I had to navigate my own unique path to success,” Alexis said. “Balancing the responsibilities of motherhood, work, and school was not easy, but it taught me the importance of time management, perseverance, and self-belief. Each challenge I faced strengthened my commitment to creating a better future for myself and my family, and every success became a testament to the values I aim to instill in my children.”
