Export Advisory Service
Randi Walker | rwalker@bcwood.com
BC Wood is proud to launch a new advanced exporting program focused on helping BC wood product companies that have completed the Export Readiness Training Program or are already exporting outside of Canada. All services are performed remotely and virtually at times that best suit the company’s availability and only require a time commitment ranging from 1-4 hours depending on the service.
Introductory Exporting Advisory Service:
Even having completed a comprehensive export training program, many companies still experience challenges with finding critical market research, completing an Export Plan, or negotiating initial shipping contracts with new customers.
As part of the introductory service, our trainer Greg Henderson from Exportspark will engage with company executives or owners to review issues, questions, or draft Export Plans and provide recommendations. The services will consist of a short review of the company’s product, an initial call to review what is required with a second call to review final recommendations or suggestions.
Advanced Exporting Advisory Service:
Even for companies that are export ready or currently exporting to the US, it is still vital to create a solid strategy and an action plan for entry into any new market. For BC Wood members planning on meeting with buyers from these new markets at upcoming events, simply having something to sell won’t be enough for success.
Exportspark will work together with company executives or owners to review the company’s marketing & product, validate best fit markets, develop a strategic plan for market entry along with an HR plan and review best practices around meeting with specific buyers at upcoming BC Wood events.
These services are highly cost-shared by our government funders and there is still time to get some valuable training and advisory services in before you attend the GBM!
For costs and more information on these services, contact Randi Walker at rwalker@bcwood.com.

In-Person BC Wood Technical Training Program Resumes in Japan
Jim Ivanoff | ivanoff@bcwood.jp
Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have implemented a hybrid strategy for our seminar programs that allows us to deliver them through the Zoom Webinar platform, even during periods of high case numbers. This strategy has been very effective in also increasing the overall reach of these programs. Conversely, it did take away our opportunity to build stronger bonds with the participants, as such in-person exchanges are particularly important in regions outside of Tokyo where we cannot deliver programming as often. Luckily with the COVID-19 situation in Japan improving over the spring, BC Wood was able to move forward with its plan to deliver in-person technical training seminars on designing with Western Red Cedar in both Hiroshima and Fukuoka.
It has been almost ten years since we have delivered seminars in either of these cities, so we were very excited to finally go back again. As an up-and-coming hub city for East Asia with a lot of commercial as well as residential development to support its growing population, we had high expectations for Fukuoka in particular. With the two seminars back-to-back, we were also able to offer designers and architects from over a wide region of Western Japan, stretching from the Kansai region to the southern part of Kyushu, the option of taking part in either location. This strategy worked well and helped us recruit almost 80 participants.

Sunrise Kitchens Announces New 85-Foot Automated Cefla Paint Line
Sunrise Kitchens
We are pleased to announce the addition of our new 85-foot automated Cefla paint line to our finishing process. This new finishing line increases our capacity to 1,300 doors (50 kitchens) in 8 hours.
Sunrise Kitchens is the only kitchen cabinet manufacturer in Western Canada to own this high-performance paint line with the revolutionary Sun-Spot paint drying system. The Sun-Spot provides accelerated drying and curing with catalytic infrared heaters that efficiently and cleanly cure coatings to a more robust finish.
We have also made the decision to switch to polyurethane coatings instead of the traditional conversion varnish coating. Sunrise Kitchens is the only kitchen cabinet manufacturer in BC to use polyurethane coatings as standard. This significantly increases durability and resistance to moisture, scratches, and spills for our painted products.
