Part-time online training program with a one-week hands-on practical session
North America’s most comprehensive wood finishing certificate program.
The certificate program provides participants with a broad understanding of the field of wood finishing. It's designed for individuals who have some general experience in wood finishing and would like to expand their knowledge.
Once completed, learners will have knowledge and experience to do the following:
- Understand why the finish is applied to wood and how wood properties affect finishing
- To be able to identify the best finishing system based on the end-use
- Trouble-shoot wood finishing problems
- Design a safe and efficient finishing facility
This course will provide you with the knowledge and tools to start a finishing business or to improve an existing one.

UBC - Online Managements Skill Training Courses
UBC – Centre for Advanced Wood Processing (CAWP) will be offering the following “online” courses; Quality Management & Control will run from October 25 to December 6, 2021, and Production Planning will run from October 25 to December 20, 2021.
These wood products industry-specific courses are designed for owners, managers, supervisors or management tracked employees. These are not academic courses and the skills learned can be applied immediately to the workplace. Each part-time course is led by a tutor with extensive industry experience.

BC Wood’s returns to the European Market
BC Wood will return to the European marketplace with its’ participation in the ZOW tradeshow – February 8-10th, 2022 in Bad Salzuflen, Germany. The ZOW tradeshow, a highly targeted industry-only event of its kind in Europe, attracting 12,000 industry professionals.
Participating in the ZOW tradeshow with BC Wood will allow companies to position their brands at this high-profile event; raise brand awareness, meet new clients, and close business deals. The ZOW tradeshow allows attendees to explore the emerging possibilities in the timber business and brings together exhibitors and potential consumers under one roof.

The WRLA Building & Hardware Showcase is one of the largest gatherings of the lumber and building materials industry in Canada, bringing together the industry's top decision-makers and opinion leaders. The show provides networking opportunities where exhibitors and suppliers can get their products in front of a diverse range of buyers in the industry to develop new markets, generate sales leads, and gain national exposure.

A Quick Review of Building Connections at the GBM for the North American Market
Thank you to all the buyers and suppliers who participated in the online one-to-one meetings! We had a little over 300 meetings over the two days and while the event wasn’t without its hiccups for both buyers and suppliers, everyone seemed genuinely happy with the event. Add in the complexity of different countries with various time zones and languages, makes the organization and delivery of this type of event quite complex. Again, thank you all for your support.

Innovation & Creative Marketing Spotlight
We have seen a lot of innovative and creative marketing activities to connect with buyers over the last 20 months; however, one has stood out as particularly impressive. Dai Ona and his company, Daizen Joinery, offered a factory tour of their facilities as part of the WoodTALKS event at the GBM. As I understand it, Dai had over 110 architects and builders from across North America participate in his factory tour. They pulled out all stops using multi-cameras, staff interviews, humming machinery and a question-and-answer segment to make the 45-minute presentation visually appealing and extremely interesting to the audience. Making it more impressive is this was done live. It was very well executed and kudos to the team at Daizen.

Yesterday we sent out a survey to gauge the interest and support for upcoming trade activities in Canada and the US over the next 5 months. I know you get inundated with surveys and requests for information on a regular basis, but this information will be very useful in helping to direct our activities as we move back to in-person events. Intelligent City Opens First Robotically Automated Urban Housing Factory

Intelligent City has begun building urban housing projects in the company’s new factory on River Road in North Delta after developing and commissioning its robotics technology to aid in providing breakthrough turn-key housing for developers, landowners, and housing operators. The opening of their factory was officiated by the Honourable John Horgan, Premier of British Columbia, the Honourable Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation, and Brian Hawrysh, CEO of BC Wood.

PowerWood Corp. is focused on finding the finest of British Columbia’s fibre resource, and turning it into specialty building products that will last a century and catch people’s attention worldwide.
