Mark your calendar now for the next Wood County Prevention Coalition meeting on Friday, September 24, 2021 at the Wood County Educational Service Center, 1867 N. Research Drive, Bowling Green, OH from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Our agenda includes legislative updates, notable announcements about our Coalition and a presentation from Faith DeNardo, Ph.D., CHES. Dr. DeNardo is Bowling Green State University's Wellness Connection Director, Center for Violence Prevention and Education Co-Director, and Title IX Deputy Coordinator, and will render a presentation on the recently completed National College Health Assessment with comparatives to other campuses. Meeting notices will be sent out, but please invite others to attend as well. Those not on our email distribution list should contact Tina Bradley at tbradley@wcesc.org to be added. All are welcome!

A Note from the New Coalition Coordinator

Greetings! My name is Tina Bradley and I am so very pleased to announce my recent endeavor (began May 24) as Wood County Educational Service Center's Drug-free Communities Grant Program Coordinator/Wood County Prevention Coordinator! I am also the Coordinator for the Wood County Educational Service Center's Drug-Free Communities grant. You may already know me as the recently-retired Grants Administrator for the City of Bowling Green. My Master's Degree in Public Administration and over 30 year's managerial experience in overseeing federally-funded programming (including past prevention program oversight) provide me with the skills necessary to ensure the ongoing success of our Coalition. Working in conjunction with the Wood County Prevention Coalition toward a drug-free Wood County is a worthy endeavor and I am proud to be a part of it! My husband Mark and I have been Wood County residents since 2003. We reside in Bowling Green with our adopted/rescued tabby cat, Tabitha. We are the proud parents of two grown sons, Andrew (lives in Michigan with his wife Amanda and our two grandchildren, Oliver and Mackenzie) and Patrick (lives in Massachusetts as does his fiancée, Olivia). Mark and I love spending time with our beautiful family, but also enjoy traveling, watching Indiana University sporting events (where we both received our undergraduate degrees) flower gardening and cooking together. My personal hobbies are decorating our home and various other creative pursuits--to include art and writing. My first anticipated goal is to assist in taking our Coalition to the next level via the development of various CADCA products that serve to guide our prevention efforts strategically. Included are Logic Models, a Community Assessment, Sustainability Plan, Strategic and Action Plan, Evaluation Plan and Evaluation Communication Plan (more details will be announced at our September meeting as well as a very momentous announcement about our December 10 meeting). I look forward to what comes next for our Coalition. There are already significant new announcements coming within the next few months--so, please plan to join me at our September meeting to hear more. Hope to see you at our September 24 meeting! T.

Drug-Free Communities Grant Updates

Two grants (awarded late last school year) were finalized late in the 2020-2021 school year. Both funded multi-faceted media campaigns targeting Wood County. The State Farm grant ($5,000) carried out a digital media plan focusing on the subject of safe driving for teens. The Prevention Action Alliance grant ($15,000) funded a problem gambling television and social media campaign. In addition to the important messages these efforts delivered, the awarded dollars were also utilized as a portion of the required non-federal match assistance for the Drug-free Communities Grant. In June, 2021, the WCPC Coordinator applied for a $15,000 Neighborhood Assist grant. The proposal was written to fund a series of workshops aimed at youth influencers with a goal of preventing youth substance use. No word has been received on the status of this grant, yet. No doubt, if it is awarded, an announcement will be made.
