April 2025

From the Parks & Rec Office

April showers May have to hold off this spring since Woodbury is hosting many exciting events and programs! April alone hosts both the Egg Hunt and Earth Day with Memorial Day and our Summer Concerts right around the corner! All the information is available on our website. Click here to see what we've got planned!

To answer some of the questions we've received, we wanted to provide an update specific to the Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony that is experiencing some changes this year and here's why:

NEW DATE! The 2025 parade will take place on Saturday instead of Sunday. We have seen a consistent decrease in attendance for this event for many years. Instead of canceling a town tradition, we are looking to revitalize the event to once again see family participation.

NEW TIME! We receive feedback each year that people would attend if the parade were in the morning. This was not an option in the past since the parade was on a Sunday, so we took this opportunity to recognize the feedback from the community and make a change.

NEW FINISH! Generally the parade concludes at Cannon Green for a Memorial Ceremony. This ceremony is always quite moving full of many heartfelt speeches, military appropriate traditions, and serves as an important reminder for why the "holiday" exists. However, the parade participants generally withdraw from the area, the traffic resumes and the few that remain can barely hear the solemn words being spoken. Therefore, the 2025 parade will conclude at Hollow Park with a military appropriate temporary monument in place. The annual ceremony will still take place with hopefully a crowd in attendance, and voices booming in the quiet park environment.

Volunteers have organized a picnic that will begin after the ceremony concludes, with many exciting details like free food, live music and community collaboration for the holiday weekend. Live music will be played by the 102nd Army Band. Picnic flyer with details below!

CT's Largest Earth Day event held here in Woodbury is on the 27th!

We still need volunteers for Earth Day! If you'd like to participate in Connecticut's largest Earth Day event, there's plenty of opportunity. Please call or email us at RecInfo@woodburyct.org. Don't want to volunteer? That's fine! Still plan to join us at Hollow Park to partake in the many exhibits, activities, tours, entertainment and so much more - ALL FREE! Many food & product vendors also available for purchase. More event details included below.

The planning SEEDS are PLANTED and the SPRING calendar is ready to BLOOM! With warm temperatures around the corner the schedule is only GROWING! Follow us on Facebook and reach out with any questions. We look forward to seeing you in the park soon!

Say Hello to Adam Tilbe:

Adam, the founder of Vital Energy Integrative Wellness, has been studying and teaching martial arts for over 20 years. Over that time, he has been very fortunate to receive private instruction in the Arts of Shaolin Kempo, Kung Fu, Tai Chi, and Qigong from some of the most respected Masters in the United States and China. In 2022 he was recognized as a Master (Sifu) by his teachers. Since 2004, Adam has traveled to China on several occasions to train directly with the monks at the Shaolin temple.  In 2008 & 2018 he had the honor of performing for Abbot Shi Yonxin at the Shaolin Temple.

With years of experience helping others improve balance, flexibility, and mindfulness, Adam began teaching Tai Chi with Woodbury Parks and Rec in 2019. His classes provide a welcoming environment for all skill levels. His approach blends traditional techniques with practical applications, making Tai Chi an accessible and effective practice for enhancing overall well-being.
