January 2025

From the Parks & Rec Office

As we begin 2025 with the excitement of new opportunities and where we are going next, let's not forget to celebrate a couple of the 2024 highlights:

Rockstar Linda McCarthy joined our team - wow are we grateful for her and the incredible asset to our department that she is!

WP&R took over Woodbury's Annual Earth Day Celebration in partnership with many local dedicated volunteers. This event is the largest Earth Day Celebration in CT!

WP&R's good friends Brendan and Wendy Reig were honored with the much-deserved 2024 Bernard Rosenberg Award for those dedicated to exceptional community service! We were proud to have held the first annual Memorial Day Community Picnic in their honor.

WP&R completed a professional Master Plan of Hollow Park creating a 20-year vision for that property with the goal of beginning Phase 1 projects this year!

Eleven NEW programs and two NEW free events provided to the community!

The Rec House had multiple renovations completed creating a safe and beautiful space!

Lastly, I want to give a heartfelt thank you to all those that stepped up while I was away on maternity leave; resident volunteers that helped with programming and events, our WP&R Commission members, First Selectman Barbara Perkinson, and especially our incredible, dedicated staff. Our department may be small, but the passion to serve the community is unparalleled. I have no doubt with this talented, devoted, professional, quirky crew - 2025 will be the best year yet!

Thank you, Woodbury, for allowing us the privilege to serve you and Happy New Year!

ISO Volunteers!

We'd love to keep our traditional events going and add even more in the future! But to do that, we need your help. Staff hours have been reduced, so in order to keep these events going, we need volunteers! Our Earth Day Celebration, Spring Egg Hunt, Memorial Day Parade, Trunk or Treat will all have to depend on volunteers, both before and during the planning stages, and during the actual event. Please contact us if you're interested in volunteering in general, or for a specific event. We here at P&R very much want to continue to serve the community, but now we need some more hands-on deck to make that happen!

2025 Earth Day Celebration

Woodbury Parks & Recreation is proud to announce we will be hosting the 31st Annual Woodbury Earth Day!

This event is not possible without the help and support of community volunteers. Please consider volunteering for this historic event. It is the largest Earth Day event in Connecticut, and we very much want to keep that momentum going!

If you are interested in joining us, not just on the day of the event, but at our monthly meetings to organize and plan this major event, please email us at woodburyearthdayct@gmail.com.

To our Community Group Friends

We have been overwhelmed with requests to include community events in our newsletter, and while it's wonderful that there is so much going on, it's been making for a rather lengthy newsletter.

Instead of publishing them here, we are happy to post them on our website, under "Community Events". This section of our newsletter will be for municipal events and announcements only.
