November 2025

From the Director's Desk

Hello Woodbury,

We are well into the Fall season and things are busy as ever at Parks and Recreation. Work has continued on the restroom renovation at Hollow Park, and we are looking forward to that project being completed in the spring. Speaking of Hollow Park, we have our Trunk or Treat event coming up on October 31st from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Our trunkers put a lot of time and effort into their displays and I hope your own trick or treaters will be able to come by and be a part of our Halloween experience.

As we move into November and the weather gets colder and the sun sets earlier, we do have a variety of programs available to help keep you active and engaged. Abby is starting a beginner knitting class for those that are looking to pick up a new hobby. We are hosting a Wood Flower Workshop on Tuesday, November 18th where you will get to take home a forever centerpiece, just in time for Thanksgiving! There are also a number of fitness and wellness classes indoors for those of you trying to escape the cold for your exercise.

This month also brings the start of the holiday season, and we will have a number of fun events lined up for those of you that want to start planning early. We will have our annual Tree Lighting on December 6th, and you will have the opportunity this year to decorate an ornament to be placed on our tree before the event. Starting November 12th, just stop by the Parks and Recreation office, the Library, or the Senior Center to pick up an ornament and then return it to any of our offices by December 3rd to be included on the tree. For our pet owners, we are also having our Holiday Pet Photo Contest again this year. Entries will be accepted on our website beginning on November 14th, with voting and winner’s announced in December.

Lastly, Thanksgiving is coming up at the end of this month, so it’s a time for us to spend time with family and reflect on what we are thankful for in our lives. This year I am thankful for my family, for our staff and all of their hard work, as well as for the town for welcoming me in with open arms. I truly appreciate it, and I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,

Graham Musson

Parks and Rec Tribute - Farewell and Congratulations to Nate Bilsky!

Please join us in thanking Nate Bilsky for his outstanding work with the Woodbury Parks & Recreation Department. Since joining the team in 2022, Nate has played an important role in maintaining our parks, athletic fields, and public spaces with professionalism and pride and he has made a real difference in keeping Woodbury’s outdoor spaces safe and welcoming for everyone.

Before coming to Woodbury, Nate served as Foreman in the City of Waterbury’s Parks and Recreation Department, where he gained extensive experience in athletic field turf management and grounds maintenance. His skills and dedication quickly made him a key part of our Parks & Rec team.

In addition to his service to our town, Nate has proudly served in the United States Navy Reserves, where in June 2024 he earned a promotion to Petty Officer Second Class, one of only four candidates in the entire country to have achieved this level of promotion.

This fall, Nate, his wife Eileen, and their daughter Alina Ann will be moving to Georgia to begin a new chapter. We thank Nate for his dedication and service to both Woodbury and our country and wish his family all the best in their new adventure!

Nate, you will be greatly missed!

Traditions in Every Season

Our "Traditions in Every Season" series celebrates the simple pleasures that come with each time of year. Each month we hope to offer a few special programs that bring people together to learn something new and enjoy the spirit of the season. As part of Woodbury Celebrates America's 250th, the series also honors the traditions and creativity that connect our community through the years.

This November, the series highlights the cozy, creative side of fall with our knitting classes (ages 14+), and a wood flower centerpiece for your holiday table. And stay tuned, December brings the delicate art of paper quilling, followed by a beginner dress making sewing class in January to kick off the new year!
