Dear Parents and Guardians,
This week our 6th graders had the opportunity to experience team building which is typically a 5th grade experience. Last year, we didn't have team building for them as 5th graders, but we sure made up for it this year! The 6th graders had so much fun interacting with teachers, parents, and fellow classmates. They really came together as a class and made our sense of community even stronger. Our PE Department and PTO did an amazing job organizing the team building experience for our 6th graders!
Bravo!!
This week our
Building Leadership Team
finalized the Woodbury Culture Statement which is part of the Caring School Community Program. All of the faculty and staff believes the following statement: "
Woodbury is a place where students feel safe, have a sense
of belonging, and strive for success.
"
This statement also aligns to the Discipline Policy that was developed from a Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III framework in alignment with the Caring School Community program, Scott Gossett, Behavior Coach, and our WPBS Program.
We are very excited about our structure because it all boils down to one key phrase:
form strong, positive relationships with all students
!
Next week's Caring School Community lessons will be taught in your son or daughter's science class. In 5th grade, they will be learning about making school a happy place. Our 6th graders will be learning about making things right.
Please remember to complete the Home School Connection worksheet with your son or daughter each weekend. Please look for the Home School Connection worksheet each Friday. When I speak with students informally, they are able to tell me some things that they have learned thus far from the CSC program. We believe the CSC program is making a difference in our school climate and culture!
Here are some helpful hints taken from Home & School Connection. Parent involvement could be as easy as asking some questions once your child arrives home from school. Research shows that supporting your child's education at home is even more important. Here are conversation starters that will help you stay involved:
- "What's the coolest thing that happened today?"
- "Pretend your're the teacher. How would you describe the day?"
- "What made you laugh?"
- "What was the most creative thing you did?"
- "How were you kind or helpful today? How was someone kind or helpful to you?"
Thank you for another great week at Woodbury Elementary School
!!
Always Believe!
D. Young, Principal

We Need Legos!
New this year:
Woodbury students have a fabulous new makerspace located in the library, designed by Woodbury parent Jakecia Durham and using money from the Shaker Schools Foundation's Innovation Fund! Teachers will be able to check out special design and robotics kits for their classes, and the space will also be open to students at lunch recess and for after school clubs. Now, we're seeking donations of new or gently used LEGOs that students can use to bring their design ideas to life. Donation bins are located at the Woodbury security desk and in the Woodbury library. Thank you!
