Dear Parents and Guardians
Welcome back!
I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break and a great new year! It's hard to believe it's already
2019
. Where did the time go? This week the students smoothly transitioned back into their routines. I enjoyed seeing all of their smiling faces! Please encourage your son or daughter to focus on the IB learner profile-Balanced in 2019. This is an excellent time to refocus and take their academics to a higher level. It is also a time where each student can think about getting more involved in clubs and activities to enrich their
Woodbury
experience. Please have your son or daughter reach out to his or her teacher or our guidance counselor to learn about the endless opportunities at our school. I look forward to seeing you all very soon.
Thank you for another great week at Woodbury Elementary School!
D. Young, Principal
Always believe!!

Donate Today to Help Local Children and Teens Experiencing Homelessness
On January 21, MLK Day of Service, Shaker Heights School students, families, and staff will gather together to help youth experiencing homelessness and home insecurity in our community.
We will make sleeping mats and fleece scarves to be distributed by Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless and we will assemble over 800 teen survival kits for Bellefaire JCB and MetroHealth Foster Care Team.
What is a teen survival kit? It is a gallon Ziploc bag with a small water bottle, granola bars, raisins, bandaids, thick socks, rain poncho, lip balm, antibacterial wet wipes, gloves, and a personal card. We will also be making fleece blankets for children who enter the Bellefaire JCB homeless and missing youth program.
We need your help!
Please donate today. Every $5 helps. To donate, go to
PayForIt,
select "Fundraisers" and scroll down to MLK Day of Service. Choose your amount. You can also contribute using PayPal
https://www.paypal.me/SHPTO
. We will be collecting donations through January 14. Thank you!

Reminder Around the School

Ms. Fraser Memory Book
A small group of Aisha Fraser’s former students is forming a collection of memories, pictures and other expressions relevant to the life of Ms. Fraser. We want to gather the voices of her students and Shaker colleagues celebrating how she nurtured her students and left a lasting impact on them. This collection will be gifted to Ms. Fraser’s family to share with her daughters when they are older. Full instructions are available in this document:

6th Grade Woodbury Language Night
The Woodbury Language Acquisition Department
will be hosting an information night on
January 23, 2019
from
7:00 pm
to
8:00 pm
in the Woodbury Auditorium
To give the families of
5th
grade students an introduction to the MYP Language Acquisition offerings in the
6th
grade. Since students will be choosing a language to follow for the next 5 years, we would like families to make an informed choice as to which program they will participate in. There will be a brief presentation on each of the programs by the Woodbury teachers, followed by a meet and greet session where families will be able to ask specific questions from current Woodbury students and the teachers.
Progress Book
If you have not yet set up your account for your child’s Progress Book, please call the office for assistance. Creating this account will help you in monitoring your student’s assignments and grades.
Please be reminded:
Report cards will no longer be mailed home. Should you need a paper copy please contact the Main Office
