This workshop is being offered twice next week and will cover methods and best practices when converting to longleaf while maintaining a pine overstory. These workshops are designed for natural Resource professionals and extremely knowledgeable landowners.

NC State Welcomes Laurel Kays
Our new staff member, Ms. Laurel Kays, adds to the expertise on the subject prescribed fire. She will assist Jennifer Fawcett in work on the Comprehensive Strategy for Prescribed Fire in the Southeast United States. Laurel completed her Masters at NCSU in 2017 and has since worked on wildland fire issues in Western NC. You can expect to meet Laurel at any of the workshops and meetings where prescribed fire topics will be presented.

Innovations in Wood Energy Workshop and Tour May 22, 2018 at Mills River, NC
Interested in learning more about bioenergy in western North Carolina? A one-day workshop is being offered on Tuesday, May 22nd at the Mountain Horticultural Crops Research & Extension Center in Mills River, NC. The workshop will feature presentations but regional experts on topics ranging from use of wasted urban wood for energy, growing energy crops including trees, and the production and viability of local markets for bioenergy products such as pellets.
