Dear Bright School Parents,
As our nation wrestles with new challenges and asks for sacrifices from everyone, I know that our Bright School families are having to make significant changes in their lives as well. This isn't easy, and it won't be in the near future. All of us, I'm sure, are doing our best to maintain some regularity in the lives of our children, and I want to thank all of you for remaining strong and hopeful for them.
This week, our classes will be tackling a more demanding schedule. Our teachers have been working hard to create meaningful and regular school work for their students, as well as providing times for social interaction (virtual, that is) and periods during which students and you can contact them with questions and help. I want to encourage you to take advantage of these lines of communication with our teachers to let them know how you are doing. This is all new for everyone, and the more we work with one another, the more quickly and efficiently we'll be able to make the necessary adjustments. We're all here to help, but we'll need to hear from you as well. Together we can make this happen in a good way.
Ms. Davis shared with me today a letter written in 1918 by Alice McCallie, whose five children attended Bright School. Her husband and his brother founded McCallie School. In the letter, she mentioned Bright School and the fact that the world-wide influenza epidemic had caused the school to be closed for three weeks. The school weathered a horrible crisis then, and we will do so in 2020. As a community who not only believes in our mission to educate young boys and girls in the best ways possible, but who also cherishes the bonds of care and concern we feel for one another, we will successfully navigate our way through these challenges, together.
Sincerely,
