The Book Fair Is This Week
The book fair opens today and runs through Friday. Hours are 7:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Friday, December 13, from 7:15 a.m. to noon. Students will go with their classes during an assigned time to shop during the week, and parents and grandparents are welcome and encouraged to join them. Students will be able to shop with a parent or grandparent before or after school, as well. Teachers have a wish list for books they would like to add to their classroom libraries. Prices range from $3.99 for paperbacks to $20 for some hardcover picture books. The library receives a percentage of the proceeds. Click here for the class visit schedule.
Holiday Pop-Up Shop Opens Tomorrow
Shop for Gifts
This is a great way for your child to shop for gifts for siblings, parents, grandparents, and more. Classes will shop at certain times during the day. Parents are also welcome to shop. Here's a schedule of the times students will shop.

Your child should have brought home a bag of gift tags. You or your child may fill out the gift tags in advance and send them back by the day of the shop with money for shopping if you would like. The tags greatly help the shopping process. Talk to your child about who they may want to shop for and what kind of gift that person may like. Prices of items range from $1 to $25. There are gifts for children and adults.

Help Us!
Volunteers are needed tomorrow to help children pick out gifts, wrap and check out. If you are interested, please use the Sign-Up Genius. Click here. The most needed time is 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Building a Bright Future: New Technology to Teach Cursive
The first, second and third grade classrooms, which were renovated over the summer as part of the Building a Bright Future capital campaign, have new kinds of technology that better engage children. Third grade teacher Kendra Reasor says a program she uses on her Promethean board makes teaching cursive more interactive and fun for the students.
While students practice cursive with pencils in their paper workbooks, they take turns practicing on the board with a color of their choice. When the student at the board is finished, everyone claps. "Using the board in combination with the workbook addresses different learning styles and promotes community. Students are responsible for their individual workbooks, but the board belongs to everyone," Mrs. Reasor says.
Ice Skating on December 17
Join other families in skating at the Chattanooga Choo Choo on December 17. We'll meet there after school. Your child should have brought home a sign-up form. Please return the form to the office with payment by Friday. Put the names of all participants on the form. The Parents' Association will provide hot chocolate.
Register Now for Spring After School Classes
Register now for after school classes that begin in January. Check the Bright Afternoons website for a list of classes, days and times. Most classes begin the week of January 21, but some Monday classes begin on January 13. All fall classes have ended.

Registration is again online. Please use the forms below. Payment is made to the individual instructors and must be received by the office by Friday, December 13.

Submit Photos for the Yearbook
The yearbook is looking for photos of groups of students. If you have photos from field trips or other class activities, please share them with Elizabeth Davis. Just one or two photos from an event is enough. Email high-res photos to edavis@brightschool.com. Thank you!
Thank You for the Coat Donations
Thank you to everyone who donated coats. We collected two barrels of adult coats that have been donated to the Maclellan Shelter for Families and more than 50 coats for children that are in the process of being sorted. Those coats will be donated to needy children in our area.

Bright Scene
Congratulations to third grader Lila Taslimi, winner of the wrapping paper design contest offered by the Chattanooga Times Free Press! Her design of the mischievous Elf on the Shelf was featured in the paper on Sunday.
Jeremiah McGraw and PK assistant Lynne Stutts help decorate a tree in the Early Childhood Garden with ornaments made from fruit, popcorn and cranberries. PK students made the ornaments and hung them, hoping the birds and other critters will like them.
