COVID-19 Updates
Dear Parents,

As you know, we sent notifications yesterday about a second faculty member testing positive. In the event a faculty member or student tests positive, you will receive an email notification. The parents of students in a class that has a positive case receives an email first with information about their quarantine period. Then, faculty and staff are notified to make them aware of the situation. Finally, an email is sent to all families with a general notification. We are not identifying the individuals for privacy reasons, but, going forward we will specify the grade. The two classes in quarantine currently are JPK and PK. Again, if your child was in contact with the individuals, you will receive a detailed notification.

The school is contacting students and faculty who are considered close contacts, which means they were within six feet of the infected individual for 15 minutes or longer, and providing quarantine guidance. The health department may reach out to close contacts. The school has a specific liaison at the health department, but the health department representatives who contact families are different people and sometimes provide different information and timelines. We are trying to work through guidelines that sometimes differ as we communicate with our families. We are fortunate to be able to consult our own COVID-19 task force that includes Dr. Jay Sizemore, infectious disease specialist; Dr. Kathleen Hunt, pediatrician; Philip Byrum, trustee and human resource law expert; school nurse, Rachel Gentry, and school administrators. Our main goal is to keep our students and faculty and staff safe and to communicate important information as it becomes available.

Thank you for your cooperation.
Monitoring Your Health
As the year continues, you may encounter more situations that lead to questions about whether your child should stay home or come to school.

First, always complete the Ascend online survey each morning, whether your child comes to school or not. This includes JPK students who only come three days a week and iBright students. Ascend helps us monitor symptoms and other situations. The person dropping off children in the morning must show the completed Ascend screen in the car line. If this is not the person who completes the survey, please share a screen shot with the drop-off person or have him or her complete the survey on his or her device.

On the Ascend survey, you only mark your child as a possible exposure if your child was within 6 feet of an infected person for 15 minutes or longer. These are considered "close contacts," and you will be contacted by the health department.

If you have children attending other schools and they have possibly been exposed or you have a family member who tests positive or you have any other health questions, please contact Nurse Rachel Gentry at [email protected] or 423-267-8546, ext. 109.

If you need assistance with your Ascend account, please call Base Camp directly at 423-443-4532 or email [email protected].
Give to the Bright Fund
Watch the video to hear Mr. Morgan's challenge for the Bright Fund this year. What's he going to do if 100% of families give? It has something to do with a cow. Oh, and our students will enjoy a Chik-fil-a lunch as well. Click below to donate your gift of any amount.
Be Wise in the Car Line
We need your cooperation to help make the morning and afternoon car lines run smoothly. Here are some guidelines:
  1. Wear a face covering while in your vehicle to help protect our faculty and staff who are opening doors.
  2. Pull in front of the columns or into a parking space to buckle your child's car seat. Please don't hold up the car line.
  3. Stay behind the vehicle in front of you at all time, even if your child has already exited or gotten into your car.
  4. Do not block the driveways on McDade Lane. Our neighbors thank you.
  5. Beat the rush! Come at 7:35 a.m. to beat the morning rush and 3:20 p.m. to come after the afternoon rush.
  6. Be Kind. Be Patient. Be Positive. Thank you for your help!
If You Pick Up Your Child Early
If you need to sign out your child early for any reason such as a doctor or dentist appointment, please contact receptionist Elizabeth Jackson in advance. Email or call her the day before or earlier in the day to let her know what time you need your child, and she will have your child ready to leave when you arrive. Email her at [email protected] or call at 423-267-8546.

Get Ready for Parents' Night on Thursday

Bright School T-Shirt Day on Friday
One Friday a month is Bright School T-Shirt Day. The first one is this Friday, September 4. Students may wear any Bright School shirt with uniform bottoms. The shirts can be Bright Fit, Bright World, Bright Days, Bonanza, Bright athletic teams, etc. Your child also may wear with the shirts any bottom bought in the bookstore such as skorts or shorts. Otherwise, students must wear uniform bottoms. Show your school spirit! Be Bright!
Collect Box Tops
Box Tops are now collected by a smartphone/tablet app. After you shop, use the app to scan your receipts, and the app will instantly add earnings to our school account for participating products. Invite your family and friends to download the app to earn for our school too. Anyone can earn money for Bright School! When you scan your receipt, select “Credit” and enter your child’s grade. For example, Jr Pre-k, Pre-k, K, 1st, etc.
We will still collect Box Tops that have been clipped, so hold onto those for now. More information will follow about a friendly competition with a fun reward! Make sure you download the app and scan your receipts starting now. See below for links to the Box Tops for Education app for Apple and Google Play: Apple Store or  Google Play
Complete the OTC Form
If you would like for the nurse to give your child medicine while at school please go online and fill out the Over The Counter Medication Release and Authorization form.

The nurse will keep children's Tylenol, Motrin, Zyrtec, Benadryl, and Pepto Bismol stocked for children who need any over the counter medication during the school day. Please specify which medications your child is allowed to have.

We will try other approaches first (ice, heat, rest, etc) and use medicine as a last resort. If you prefer any other OTC medicine to be given, please label it bring it in for the nurse to keep in your child's medicine bin. For questions, please contact Nurse Rachel Gentry at [email protected].
Celebrate Birthdays with a Book
Birthdays will be celebrated differently at school this year since we will not have treats at lunch. Instead, you may join the birthday book club in the library! Your child will pick out a book that will forever be his or her birthday book. These library books have a special book plate in the front with your child's name and birthday. Your child will be the first to check out this book. Birthday books are $20 payable to Bright School Library. You may send payment to school with your child.
