Season's Greetings!
The Christmas break begins this Friday, December 18, with dismissal at 11:30 a.m. See the section below to sign up for Bright Afternoons that day.

During the break, please be vigilant about your health. Contact Nurse Rachel Gentry at [email protected] if you or your child tests positive for COVID-19 or is a close contact and your quarantine overlaps with the beginning of school. Classes resume on Tuesday, January 5. Ascend will be adding the new health department guidelines for the length of quarantine to the survey.

Thank you to all the parents who donated to the Teacher Appreciation gifts, which will be given out to faculty and staff tomorrow. We are so grateful for our generous families!

We hope everyone has a well-deserved break that is relaxing and fun! We will see our students back on January 5.
Sign Up for Bright Afternoons on December 18
We are offering Bright Afternoons care after early dismissal on Friday, December 18. Bright Afternoons will be open 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you would like your child to attend, please sign up to reserve a space for your child. Click the button below to sign up.
Finish the Campaign
We're in the final stages of the Building a Bright Future Capital Campaign, but we need your help to finish it. The gym dates to the mid-1970s and will get a much-needed update this summer. We plan to add new bleachers and modernize the aesthetics. Click the button below if you would like to learn more, give now or pledge now.
neuroBridge Virtual Coffee Tomorrow
Parents of early childhood students are encouraged to join a virtual presentation by Sarah Powe, co-founder of neuroBridge and occupational therapist who works with children at Bright. This will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, December 15, at 8:30 a.m. See the Zoom information below.

The professionals at neuroBridge have been working on material to share with families as we approach perhaps the strangest holiday season ever of perhaps the strangest year ever. Log on to learn more about:
  • Social/Emotional/Motor/Sensory Motor development
  • The impacts of multiple stressors (pandemic related) on development

Spread #BrightCheer with Cheer Cart Drive Today-Friday
wrapped_presents.jpg
Each year their children have been at Bright, the Oehmig family has hosted a gingerbread decorating party for their classmates with a donation drive to benefit the Cheer Cart at Children's Hospital at Erlanger. This year William and Sissy are in fifth grade, and, due to COVID-19, they will not hold an event. However, they are asking Bright families to donate to the Cheer Cart by bringing items on the wish list to school next week. Donations may be brought during morning and afternoon car line today through Friday.

As a gift in return, all students will receive a gingerbread house on December 18 to take home and decorate. We'd love to see pictures of your child's creation, so post them with the hashtag #Brightcheer. If your child will not be at school on Friday, please email your child's teacher so we can send home a gingerbread house on your child's last day this week.
Christmas at Bright School This Year
What to Wear
Students may wear holiday-themed shirts and accessories such as socks, hats and headbands with their regular uniform bottoms today through Thursday.

Free Dress Friday, December 18
Friday, December 18, our half day, is a free dress day, and we encourage students to wear comfortable holiday attire like jeans or sweatpants and winter boots because ...

Santa is Coming!
Instead of the traditional Christmas assembly with singing and Santa's arrival on Friday. Santa will visit the school and wave to all the students while sitting on the porch of the log cabin. Students will participate in a Jingle Jog around the track so they can see Santa. Kindergarten and fifth grade buddies will have their traditional photos taken with Santa (at a distance, of course.) So make sure your children are dressed warmly to be outside and are festive to greet Santa!

Decorations
Fifth graders made ornaments in art and shop classes that will be displayed on a tree in the office. Thank you to PA Decorations Chair Debbie Harris for decorating the school for the holidays!

Performances
Watch for videos each day this week of the fourth and fifth grade handbells playing Christmas carols. These will be posted on Facebook and Instagram each day and on our website on Friday. See below for the fourth grade Monday group playing Jolly Old St. Nicholas.

The fourth and fifth grade musical performance will be emailed to all parents and posted on Facebook and Instagram on Friday.
Spelling Bee Sign Up
Fourth and fifth graders will be bringing home information about the Spelling Bee, which will take place in person at school on January 14. The deadline to sign up is January 11. We are still determining all the logistics of the bee at school, but we will implement social distancing protocols and limit the audience to students only.

Watch for the information coming home soon. If your child would like to practice over the break, here is the study list.
