Thanksgiving Program on Friday
The Thanksgiving program is one of the most well-attended events all year. Grades PK-5 perform in the Centennial Theater, beginning at 10 a.m. If you are not attending, it will be broadcast on Facebook Live.

Students wear white polo shirts with navy uniform bottoms (pants with a belt, skirt/skort or jumper) but no shorts.

Theater Seating
Doors to the theater will open at 9 a.m. Due to fire marshal restrictions on seating in the theater, there will be no extra chairs or standing in the back. Once the theater is full, everyone arriving later will be directed to the library for overflow and to view the program via video. Because of the large crowd expected, please be courteous and stay for the entirety of the program, which is expected to end at 11 a.m. School will dismiss at 11:30 a.m.
Parking
If it is not raining, parking will be available on the field, and shuttles will run from Stuart Heights Baptist Church starting at 8 a.m. If it is raining, there will be no parking on the field, and shuttles will start at 7:30 a.m. T here will be parking attendants and traffic officers directing traffic.
Shop the Shine Bright Marketplace
That morning, the fourth and fifth graders involved in Shine Bright, a community service club, will sell items on the concourse from 8-9 a.m. and after the program at 11-11:30 a.m. Proceeds will benefit non-profit organizations chosen by the students. If you would like to support the market, please bring cash (small bills would be best) or checks.
Sign Up for Bright Afternoons on the Half Day
If your child will be staying late after the 11:30 a.m. dismissal on November 22, please let us know! Use this form to reserve a spot for your child.
Start Collecting Box Tops
It's Box Tops time -- just in time for the holidays! As you are doing all of your holiday cooking and baking, don't forget to clip or scan to collect Box Tops. This year, we will be doing one big collection with a deadline of February 12.

Box Tops is going to an entirely digital system, but some items still have the traditional clip. Clips can still be turned into the office.
Get the App
The app is called Box Tops for Education. Look for it in your app store. After you have downloaded the app, set up your account with a username and password. Then select Bright School as your school and fill out the information about yourself. Now, you can scan grocery receipts and get credit for the school. Give credit to your student when you scan a receipt by typing in the child's name, grade and teacher.

Participating brands include Nestle Pure Life Water, Lysol, Annie's, Old El Paso, Chex Mix, Nature Valley, Cheerios, and Paper Mate. For more information, visit the website.
Help the PA
Teacher Appreciation
The Parents' Association is looking for volunteers to take classes to lunch on December 5, so the teachers may enjoy the Teacher Appreciation holiday luncheon. If you would like to volunteer, click here to sign up.

Bookstore
Parents from all grades are invited to help in the bookstore during the month of December. The bookstore is open Tuesdays and Thursdays and during the fourth grade play on December 12 and 13. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Courtney Valentine at [email protected].

Holiday Pop-Up Shop
This shop, open on December 10, is an extension of the bookstore and offers students the opportunity to shop for parents, siblings, friends and more during the school day. Classes will shop at certain times during the day. The PA needs help setting up on December 9 and working the shop during the school day on December 10. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Courtney Valentine at [email protected].

Coat Drive
We are collecting gently-used winter coats (child and adult sizes), gloves and scarves for the Maclellan Shelter for Families and other needy families in our area. The drive ends TOMORROW. There are drop-off boxes in the main lobby and in the Early Childhood Center building. Our fifth graders will help sort the donations.

Grateful Gobbler Walk
The 20th Annual Grateful Gobbler 5K Walk/Run will take place once again on Thanksgiving morning. Walkers will gather at Coolidge Park for festivities before the 8 a.m. start. The event is especially exciting this year as 100% of the proceeds of the walk will benefit the Maclellan Shelter for Families. To register go to the website .

Forrest Spence Fundraiser on December 5
Let your child stay late on December 5 and participate in a holiday community service activity and fundraiser for the Forrest Spence Fund. The suggested donation per child is $20. Students will have snacks, make holiday cards and watch movies. Pick up will be at the main lobby between 5-5:30 p.m. This is a separate activity from Bright Afternoons. If you would like to reserve your child's spot, please fill out this form and return it to the office with your donation (check payable to The Bright School). All proceeds will go toward the Forrest Spence Fund, which provides non-medical assistance to families with critically and chronically ill children.
The Book Fair Is Coming!
The book fair is December 9-13 and open 7:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Friday, December 13 from 7:15 a.m. to noon. Friday, December 6 (noon-4:30 p.m.) will be a parent, grandparent, and teacher preview day. Students will go with their classes during an assigned time to shop during the week, and parents and grandparents are welcome and encouraged to join them. Students will be able to shop with a parent or grandparent before or after school, as well. Teachers will have a wish list for books they would like to add to their classroom libraries. Prices range from $3.99 for paperbacks to $20 for some hardcover picture books. The library receives a percentage of the proceeds. Click here for the class visit schedule.

Bright Scene
Grades 1-5 had manners classes in P.E. last week. The first day included proper behavior in the hallways, dining hall and restrooms. Mrs. Sally Daughtery taught a lesson on table etiquette and conversation tips, and the students got to practice table manners on Friday with a visit to the Chateau Le Gym. They practiced cutting with a knife and fork and making good conversation while coaches Jeff McDaniel and Ashley Linehart and school counselor Rachel Blanton dressed in formal wear. Pictured: Coach Linehart helps second grader Wynn Eady cut her food while Nayana Vardhana, Harlan Soss, Wyatt Sommer, Helen Davenport and Bennett Born watch.
