Hurricane Florence Book Drive
Keep bringing books for the Hurricane Florence Book Drive!

We are teaming up again with Destinee's Gift, a nonprofit started last year by the family of first grader Destinee Harris after Hurricane Harvey. Last year, we sent more than 1,400 books to the Houston area.

Please bring gently-used children's books through October 12. Collection bins are in each hallway.
Last Day for Charleston Wrap
Thank you to everyone who registered on the Charleston Wrap website and sold items. The fundraising competition ends at 3 p.m. today. All orders (online or paper) must be completed by then to be counted.

There are lots of great prizes. The top-seller prizes are a $200 Visa gift card, cooking class from Dish T'Pass and a really big hedgehog bean bag.

If you have not yet made a purchase or asked others to purchase, the school ID is z-11323. Questions? Contact PA chairs Lucy Sawrie or Mary Catherine Robbins.
Volunteers for Waste Less Wednesdays
Waste Less Wednesdays encourage students to waste less food and make good choices at lunch by taking only the foods and amounts they will eat. This initiative began last year as a project of the Green Team and science lessons on composting in partnership with the dining hall staff and the Parents' Association. The PA is seeking parents to volunteer during the lunch hours to help children select foods and make sure they get the right amount. Lunch for grades PK-5 is held from 10:45 a.m. to about 12:45 p.m. To sign to be a volunteer, please use this link . Questions? Contact Dorothy Caplenor at [email protected].
Interested in Archery?
Calling all fourth and fifth grade parents: Would your child be interested in joining a competitive archery team at Bright?

Coaches Connell and McDaniel are seeking students who may be interested. The team would be open to grades 4-5 and led by kindergarten teacher Bill Greene. Practice would be on Wednesday afternoons, and the team could begin as early as this spring. We want to hear from third grade parents for next year as well. Interested? Please send an email to Jeff McDaniel at [email protected] by October 12.

Bright Scene
The 40th annual volleyball game was held last Thursday. The event began in 1978 as a game between sixth graders and teachers, but over time it has evolved into multiple games played by teams that include fifth graders and teachers wearing all kinds of costumes and accessories to fit their team names.
