Bid Now in the Pajama Party Auction
Stay in your pajamas and bid all day from home in the 2020 Pajama Party Auction to benefit the children of Bright School! The auction ends at 9 p.m. on Monday, November 2.

There are lots of unique art works in the auction. Sometimes it is hard to estimate the size, colors, etc. from an online photo. If you would like to see an item, please sign in with Elizabeth Jackson, and someone in the office will be happy to show you the piece.
New Lunch Procedures for Grades 1-5
Students in grades 1-5 are now going to the dining hall to pick up their lunches. They can choose items from the day's menu on the hot line and/or pre-made salads with separately packaged toppings and sandwiches. These students continue to eat lunch in their classrooms or outside. This change allows hot food to stay warmer longer and gives the students more choices. Students in kindergarten and PK still have their pre-packaged lunches brought to the hallways outside their classrooms. We appreciate the cooperation of our students, teachers and dining hall staff!
Be Cautious on Hixson Pike
Our entrance along Hixson Pike is a dangerous stretch of road, especially for our traffic officers, Officer Trueitt in the morning and Officer Prater in the afternoon. As you remember to abide by the school zone speed limit and refrain from using mobile devices, please give a friendly wave to our officers, who help keep us safe.
Halloween Happenings

Parent Volunteers
Several Halloween activities and parties are happening this week. Parents who are helping organize or bring items must complete a health screening and temperature check when arriving at school. Grades 1-5 should go to the main entrance at the columns, and grades JPK-K should go to the Early Childhood Center building. To reduce exposure, we are limiting guests to parents who have been contacted by room reps to help with the events. Please remember to wear your face coverings. Thank you for your cooperation.

Give Back Candy
We will be collecting and donating leftover or discounted candy after Halloween to various organizations. If you would like to participate, please put the candy in a sealed plastic baggie and have your child deposit the bag in collection boxes on the concourse and the ECC entrance during the morning car line on Monday, November 2.
We're Electing a Library Mascot
Four years ago, students nominated literary characters for the president of the school. They elected Hermione Grainger from the Harry Potter series. This year, students are electing a mascot for the library, which will be renovated this summer as part of the Building a Bright Future capital campaign. Grades PK-5 have chosen characters or created their own to nominate. They are introducing their nominations to the entire school through videos teachers show in their classrooms. This week, students will hold the primary election in their classrooms to narrow the choices. The two candidates with the most votes will go head to head in the election on November 3. So far, grades 2-5 have announced their nominees. Watch the videos below to learn about the candidates. We will include grades PK-1 in next week's Woodshop.
Fifth Grade-Annabeth Chase from the Percy Jackson series
Fourth Grade-Dolly Parton
Third Grade-Buddy the German Shepherd puppy
Second Grade-Mercy Watson the pig

Bright Scene
Second graders released Monarch butterflies in Mrs. Nestler's science class. The students watched the metamorphosis from beginning to end. Some of the butterflies did not flutter away immediately. This butterfly lingered on the children's fingers during class. From left to right: Walker McKitrick, Clark Anderson and Reese Ziegler from Mrs. White's class.
