Health and School Reminders
Community Update
Cases, hospitalizations and ICU stays are declining in our area after a sharp rise in December and early January. Please continue to be vigilant and cautious to help keep the numbers down.

When our faculty and staff are eligible to receive the vaccine, which we believe will be in late February or March, our school plans to participate in a Tennessee Association of Independent Schools' program that will allow us to partner with another independent school or schools and provide the vaccine to our faculty and staff at school. We will provide more details when they become available.

COVID-19 Testing
If you plan to seek a test for your child for any reason, please contact Nurse Rachel Gentry in advance at [email protected]. You will need to keep your child at home while you wait for results, and your child needs to be symptom-free for 24 hours and fever-free for 48 hours without medication before returning after a negative test. At this time, we are only accepting the negative results from PCR tests, not rapid tests. Rapid tests have a high rate inaccurate results.

If a parent or other household contact of a student has been tested due to a potential exposure or illness with COVID-19 symptoms, please keep your child at home as a precaution until you receive negative test results. If the test is a requirement for work/school or another reason not related to an exposure or symptoms, your child may come to school while you await results.

Complete Ascend
Please complete the Ascend online health survey each day even if your child is not present at school. Ascend must be completed by those in quarantine who wish to opt into the shortened period of time. If your child has tested positive or is a close contact and currently in quarantine, please note this on Ascend and email Nurse Rachel Gentry at [email protected].

Visitors
No visitors are allowed beyond the front desk and main office area. If your child is late, please sign in at the front desk.
Parent Conferences Thursday and Friday
Thursday, January 28, is a half day with dismissal at 11:30 a.m., and there is no school on Friday, January 29, for parent conferences.

Registration for the conferences is online. Your child's teacher has provided a link to the class's Sign-Up Genius in the weekly blast. You will indicate in-person or virtual as we had in the fall. Fourth and fifth grades will have a slightly different schedule.

Bright Afternoons is open on Thursday and Friday. There are no drop-ins during conferences as we have had in the past. To register your child for Bright Afternoons, please click here.
Register for After School Classes
We are excited to safely bring back a few of our Bright After School classes this winter. To ensure the safest setting possible, we are hosting these sessions by grade-level groups only. All students will have their temperature checked before entering their class. Each class has limited space, and registration forms are time-stamped when submitted. While we have expanded the offerings to include a few off-site vendors, the majority of these classes are offered by our own faculty. We thank them for their time and willingness to provide extra activities for our students.

Descriptions of all after school class offerings can be found on the Bright School website and on the registration form. Check for times, dates, and fees on the registration form.

All classes have fees associated with registration. Payment will be due before your first class either through Venmo or check. Checks should be made payable to individual instructors (NOT Bright School).

If you register for Spanish, you will receive an emailed invoice from Chattanooga School of Language. Please reach out to the teacher if you have partial credits from Spring 2020.

Families with multiple children should complete a separate form for each child. If you have questions, contact Kendra Reasor: [email protected]
Re-Enrollment for Rising PK-5
Families of children enrolling in PK and kindergarten next year should have received an email last week with a link to complete a new contract for the 2021-22 school year. Contracts must be complete by February 1. Students going into grades 1-5 next year are automatically enrolled. If your child is not returning next year for any grade, please contact Brooke Moore at [email protected] by February 1.

Bright Scene
Second graders are learning about inches, feet and yards as well as measuring and estimating measurements. They made their own foot-long rulers and put them end to end to measure a long piece of string in the hallway. This is Mrs. White's class. Mrs. O'Neal's class also measured a string while quarantined students in Mrs. Hurlbut's class watched via video.
