Health and School Reminders
Complete Ascend
Please complete the Ascend online health survey each day even if your child is not present at school. Ascend must be completed by those in quarantine who wish to opt into the shortened period of time. If your child has tested positive or is a close contact and currently in quarantine, please note this on Ascend and email Nurse Rachel Gentry at [email protected].

Household Contacts
If a parent or other household contact of a student has been tested due to a potential exposure or illness with COVID-19 symptoms, please keep your child at home as a precaution until you receive negative test results. If you or someone else in the household is tested as a requirement for work/school or another reason not related to an exposure or symptoms, your child may come to school while you await results. Students who are tested must stay home until receiving a negative test and/or symptoms subside for 24 hours and fever free for 48 hours without medication. Please contact Nurse Rachel Gentry if you have any questions.

Face Coverings
This includes parents! Please wear a mask when dropping off and picking up your student in the car line. This will help protect our teachers and staff.

All students need to have face coverings that are two layers. Make sure your child also has two extra face coverings to keep at school. Bandanas are no longer allowed as face coverings.

Before and After School Activities
All before and after school classes and athletics are suspended until further notice. Bright Afternoons, help classes and individual Cadek music lessons will continue. If your child's regular afternoon schedule is changing, please notify the teacher in advance and talk to your child about the day's plan.

Visitors
No visitors are allowed beyond the front desk and main office area. If your child is late, please sign in at the front desk.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 18
There will be no school on Monday, January 18, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. There are many ways your family can take part in activities to learn more about Dr. King. Below are some recommendations:
Learn at Home

Community Service
  • Coat Drive on January 19: Clean out your closets and bring coats, scarves, hats, and gloves to school. Items will be donated to the Maclellan Shelter for Families.

  • Community Clean Up: Do you enjoy walking or hiking with your family? Next time you go for a hike, bring a bag to collect any trash that you see. “The time is always right to do the right thing.”— Martin Luther King Jr.

  • Make sandwiches for the Community Kitchen: Make peanut butter and jelly or ham and cheese sandwiches at home, wrap or put them in baggies, and deliver them to the Community Kitchen, which provides meals and snacks to people at hotels who are in quarantine. For more information, please contact Trish at the Community Kitchen directly at 423-756-4222. (Do not bring the sandwiches to school.)

Bright Afternoons Will Be Open
If you need childcare on January 18, please sign up for Bright Afternoons, which will be available 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $45. Click on the button below to sign up.
Re-Enrollment for Rising PK-5
It's almost re-enrollment time. If your child will be entering PK through fifth grade next year, you will receive an email about re-enrollment next week. This email will contain tuition amounts for next year. Families for rising PK and kindergarten will complete new contracts. If your child is not returning next year, please notify us by February 1.
Testing Coming Up for Grades 2-5
Computer Menu
Grades 2-5 will take part in ERB testing. This is held every year and helps teachers track progress before the end of the school year.

There is no extra studying or preparation for students. Parents should make sure students have a good night's sleep and healthy breakfast the day of testing.

Grades 3-5 will test January 19-21, and second grade will test on January 25.
Parent Conferences January 28-29
Thursday, January 28, is a half day with dismissal at 11:30 a.m., and there is no school on Friday, January 29, for parent conferences.

Registration for the conferences is online. Your child's teacher will include a link to the class's Sign-Up Genius this Friday. You will indicate in-person or virtual as we had in the fall. Fourth and fifth grades will have a slightly different schedule.
Registration Open for Cadek's Spring
Register now for spring music lessons at Cadek! Cadek Conservatory of Music offers private and small group lessons on campus at The Bright School, GPS, and McCallie for a variety of instruments, including piano, violin, guitar, voice, and many more. Read more about our offerings.
