Prepare for Distance Learning
Teachers are working today to begin distance learning next Monday, March 23. Here are tasks you can do this week to prepare and what you should expect from the school:

Today: Teachers will be using Zoom to communicate with their classes. You may download the Zoom app or sign up on the website. Some classes will be using a platform called SeeSaw. You may download the SeeSaw app or access the website on your computer at home. To help you prepare, here is a handy video.
If you are wondering what distance learning will look like when it begins next week, here are some sample schedules. Click here to view a sample schedule for grades JPK-K. Click here to view a sample schedule for grades 1-5. These are sample schedules only. Teachers will send you the schedule for your child's class.

Tuesday: Your child's teacher will send an email to you with instructions, a link, time and day (or Sign-Up Genius in some classes) about testing a Zoom meeting with a few classmates. This is the time to let teachers know if you have any issues with devices or wi-fi that might inhibit your ability to complete distance learning at home.

Wednesday & Thursday: Teachers will be testing Zoom meetings with small groups of students. Your child will be invited to join a meeting on one of these days.

Friday: Teachers will test Zoom meetings with your child's entire class. You will receive information about how when to connect to the meeting.
Questions You May Have
Parents will have many questions over the next few days and weeks. The school office will be open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and receptionist Elizabeth Jackson and nurse Kelly Jennings will be available to answer phone calls during that time. Our main phone number is 423-267-8546. If your child was absent last Friday, you may pick up items from the office during these hours. We have not determined whether the school office will be open next week, but we will communicate that once a decision is made.

Teachers will have "classroom hours" next week when they will be available to answer phone calls and emails. These hours will be listed in the schedule they send to parents. The hours listed on the sample schedule above may not be the hours your child's teacher is available. These classroom hours are for answering questions about distance learning. These hours are not intended for tutoring.

Our teachers are working very hard to plan and prepare schoolwork to keep your child engaged in learning and connected to his or her class. Our hope is that when classes resume in-person students will be ready to keep moving in their studies.

As campus is closed for classes, we also will not conduct sports, after school classes or other activities on school grounds.

If your child takes a music lesson through Cadek, please be looking for an email from Cadek or your instructor. There will be no in-person classes at Bright.

If you need resources regarding how to talk to your child about the coronavirus and what is happening, school counselor Rachel Blanton recommends this helpful document.

More information is available on our COVID-19 Closure website.
