Read a Million Minutes
Tomorrow is the first day of Mr. Morgan's reading campaign called Read a Million Minutes. Everybody in our school community can participate and help us reach a million minutes of reading. Once we meet that milestone, Mr. Morgan is going to spend the day and the night reading on the roof of the school. This was one of the first (of many) crazy and silly things he did for the children of Bright School when he first became head of school in 2004. He wanted to end his tenure with a fun challenge to get the students excited about reading. Please see the video above for what teachers are showing the children tomorrow.

Here's how you can participate: Help your child keep track of reading at home. Each day's minutes will be recorded in the classroom. Every minute of reading counts! Use a timer or estimate time everyone in the home spends reading. This can be siblings, parents and anyone else who wants to participate. Track reading bedtime stories, reading the newspaper, reading online, reading for work, reading for homework, siblings' reading for homework, etc. We need all the minutes we can get! Let's get to that milestone and see Mr. Morgan sitting on the roof before the end of school.
Calendar Update
Last week, we provided a new calendar of events for the rest of the school year. Several major events have been changed due to COVID-19 restrictions. More information will be coming before each event to remind you of new protocols. Fifth grade families have received information about graduation. If you missed last week's announcement, view the information on our website.
Information Coming about New Student Portal
Bright School is currently implementing Blackbaud, a new database that will serve as our student and family portal for contact information, report cards and enrollment contracts. All parents/guardians will need to create log-ins. Please watch for an email next Monday, February 22, for all the information you will need.
Volunteers Needed for Happy Cart
Please consider helping with the Happy Cart these last few months of school! Volunteers are needed to stock the cart and then drop off the treats and snacks at the front desk. For those who are new, or haven't signed up for the Happy Cart before, it is a snack and treat area for our amazing faculty and staff. They truly appreciate this small gesture of appreciation and always look forward to a little 'pick me up' from the Happy Cart. A more complete description (as well as item suggestions) is available when you sign up.

Bright Scene
Valentines to the rescue! Music teacher Cindy Beirne learned from a friend that residents at a nursing home were having to isolate in their rooms over Valentine's Day and asked if anyone could make cards to cheer up the residents. Students in second, fourth and fifth grades jumped into action and made cards that Mrs. Beirne delivered to the nursing home. These are the cards Mrs. O'Neal's second grade class made.
