WORD for the Week for July 14, 2019
Fifth Sunday After Pentecost
A 9-week worship series: The Gift of Wonder
Week 3
The Gift of Wonder: Three Miracles Before Breakfast

This summer, get to know God in a new way. Experience The Gift of Wonder in our 9-week summer worship series beginning June 30.

Can you imagine a God who dances with shouts of joy, laughs when you laugh, loves to play, enjoys life, and invites us to join in the fun? In this series we will explore what it means to delight in God, to set our imaginations free, to return to the rhythm of life, to cultivate gratitude, and more.

Using the book The Gift of Wonder by Christine Aroney-Sine as our guide, every week we will try a new practice for opening ourselves to awe and wonder–to God. Spend the season deepening your wonder in God at Hennepin.
Sabbath Beginnings – Sacred Journey – Traditional Worship
WORD for Sabbath Beginnings 8am
Scripture Text: John 3:1-8 (NRSV)

Worship Leader: Rev. Dwight Haberman

Holy Communion : Today’s scripture is one of the most quoted of the Bible and is about being “born again”. It has to do with how we “become” Christian and the focus is often on our decision to put Jesus first in our lives. While this is basic, we need to also know that “born again” is also translated to mean “from above”. While we need to make decisions about the center of our life, we also need to recall that the gift our decision brings us, comes from God The wonder in all of this is that God loves each of us so much that God is willing to make our lives what they were created to be. The wonder has to do with “amazing grace.”
WORD for Sacred Journey 8:30am
Scripture Text:   John 3:1-8 (The VOICE)

The Story: “The Power of Play” – Steve Blons
Reflection: It’s play-time this week in Sacred Journey!  The Gift of Wonder  worship series continues with a celebration of childlike faith and an exploration of the joy of worship as playing together. Steve Blons leads a shared, interactive Story that will put you in touch with your inner child—and maybe your inner clown! Bring a friend, invite a neighbor, and make a playdate for Sacred Journey.  All are welcome!
WORD for Traditional Worship 10am
Gospel Text: Mark 10:13-16 (NRSV)

Preaching:  Rev. Judy Zabel

Gregory Milliren, Associate Principal Flute of the Minnesota Orchestra, will share his musical gift with us on Sunday at Traditional Worship at 10:00 AM.  Greg is a Milwaukee native who joined the Minnesota Orchestra in 2009, having served as guest principal with the Dallas Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic and Seattle Symphony, and has been a guest with the major orchestras of Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, National, Detroit, Colorado and Jacksonville. He holds degrees from the University of Minnesota and University of Southern California. Greg and his husband Dan Mollick, an Edina middle-school orchestra teacher, live in St. Louis Park with their rescue pit bull, Sadie.

Gift of Wonder: The Power of Play

Jesus said, "Unless we change and become like little children, we will never enter the kingdom of God."

Reflection: Why do you think Jesus said this? What does it mean to become like little children? What is the difference between being like a child and being childish? We look forward to seeing you on Sunday. There will be a surprise in store for you. Bring a friend and come ready to unleash your inner child and be refreshed .
