WORD for the Week for March 10, 2019
First Sunday in Lent

Sabbath Beginnings - Sacred Journey - Traditional Worship
General Conference Debriefing
There will be a General Conference Debriefing in the Sanctuary at 11:30-12:30 on Sunday, March 10. We will also live stream and record this presentation for a podcast for our website. Please submit questions ahead of time to  judy@haumc.org  so Pastor Judy can be prepared to answer them during the question and answer portion of the presentation. We will also take questions from the floor on Sunday. Continue to pray for United Methodist churches. This is a difficult time and we pray that God will strengthen us and give us wisdom as we follow God's lead.
WORD for Sabbath Beginnings 8am
Scripture Text: Luke 4:1-13 (NIV)

Worship Leader: Rev. Dwight Haberman

Holy Communion :  WELL LOVED.  Are we? How can we love well?
My question is, "Where does the heart go to school? The real problem is not the millions of people who do not think very well, but the millions of people who do not love very well." - William Sloane Coffin
WORD for Sacred Journey 8:30am
Scripture Text: Luke 4:1-13 (The Message)

The Story: Frenchye Magee

Reflection: This Sunday, we “spring forward” and spring into action! Remember to  set your   clocks   forward  one hour Saturday—and don’t forget your contribution to Minnesota FoodShare —every pound of food we collect moves us closer to the possibility of seeing all three Hennepin pastors jump in the YMCA pool!

Our new worship series,  Wellsprings of Hope  begins with the focus, “Well-Loved.” This series is intended to help us appreciate the multitude of ways that God’s divine hope shows up in our lives, to sharpen our sense of God’s care, and help us grow in our capacity to share the message of love and hope to others. This week’s focus: “Well-Loved,” asks what gives us the strength to resist narratives of false love that ask for everything and deliver nothing. Frenchye shares The Story and all are welcome to join the journey!

WORD for Traditional Worship 10am
Scripture Text: Luke 4:1-13 (NIV)

Preaching: Pastor Frenchye Magee

Reflection: “Spring Forward” and spring into action this week!
Remember to  set your   clocks   forward  one hour Saturday—and don’t leave home without your snow boots and contribution to Minnesota FoodShare—every pound of food we collect moves us closer to the possibility of seeing your Hennepin pastors together jump in the YMCA pool!

Our new worship series,  Wellsprings of Hope,  begins this week. This series guides us through the season of Lent and reminds us that each one of us has access to places of hope as we journey each day through the circumstances of our lives. God is the sole, infinite source and supply of love and grace, but that doesn’t mean cookie-cutter spirituality! Instead, through our study, prayer, service, and life together, we can discover a web of generous, mutual abundance that can offer us courage and joy, even in challenging moments. This Sunday’s focus: “Well Loved,” asks us to remember the divine love that anchors us and gives us our identity as beloved children of God. From the Gospel of Luke, we’ll explore how that identity grounds Jesus in his spiritual struggle and ask what example we can take from his choices.

For the Children and the Adults in Their Lives: Lent is a special time in the church. First, we change colors - it's a good time to wear purple! Second, we get ready for Easter - it's only six weeks away! And most of all, we prepare our minds and hearts to be the kind of people we want to be. That's a good thing to speak with adults you trust all throughout Lent: how do we be the kind of people we want to be? May you have wonderful conversations together! And here's a special treat: Chuck Knows Church has a fun video about Lent, take a look together:
