WORD for the Week for May 26, 2019
Sixth Sunday in Easter
A nine-week worship series: Green Faith
Week 5
Green Faith: Mobilizing God's People to Save the Earth

This spring and summer, you are invited to confront global climate change from a faith perspective during our 9-week series focusing on Green Faith.

Using the book  Green Faith: Mobilizing God's People to Save the Earth  by Fletcher Harper as our guide, the Hennepin community will explore how "God is calling us to live differently" in the age of global climate change. We will explore how we can and must take action to protect Creation, reconnect to nature-based spirituality, and commit more fully to environmental justice.

Every Sunday, you will hear Green Faith-themed sermons on topics like "Many Faiths, One Earth," "The Pale Blue Dot," and "Our Kairos Moment." Throughout the series, we're hosting events and programs to explore Green Faith through art, film, music, food, discussion, and more.

Spend the season deepening your Green Faith at Hennepin.

The Story:  “ What's in a Word...?” – Isaiah Friesen

Reflection:   This week in Sacred Journey, we hear a young voice from the Gen Y grassroots! Guest Storyteller, Isaiah Friesen is the first environmental justice organizer for the Minnesota Conference. In addition to sharing his journey into the work of environmental social change, he will add another dimension to our look at the urgent work of climate care and change. Language that shapes our ability to create teams, increase consciousness and calls the unaware to alertness is an important part of creating the tipping point we need. Invite the young friends in your life to come and connect! All are welcome (and all are needed) to join the journey!
WORD for Traditional Worship 10am
Gospel Text: 1 John 4:1-2a (NRSV)

Preaching:  Rev. Judy Zabel

What's in a Word?

Reflection questions: There are several narratives for the word "environment." How do we decide which narratives about the environment are helpful or true? Which narratives move us to action that ensures we mobilize to save the planet? What narratives do we tell each other?

For the Children and the Adults in Their Lives: When you look at an object, do you ever wonder where it comes from or how it's made? It can be fun to think about all the little pieces that came together or the people and machines that put them together or the person who designed the object in the first place. Everything comes from somewhere, including us. We come from love and we are sent out to share love. The Spirit comes from God to help us share that love! What's something in your home you want to know where it comes from? This week, you and a trusted adult can look up an article or video to learn all about it together.
