WORD for the Week for September 1, 2019
Twelfth Sunday After Pentecost
Sabbath Beginnings – Sacred Journey – Traditional Worship
WORD for Sabbath Beginnings 8am

Worship Leader: Rev. Jim McChesney

Holy Communion : Rhythm. Healthy lives are lived in a regular rhythm. If we get out of a healthy rhythm, chaos takes over, and we can probably all describe stories about when that has happened to us. Death of a loved one can send us spinning out of control; the loss of a job can shatter our regular and comfortable rhythm; so can becoming a new parent, becoming an empty nester, or retiring. There is a rhythm that is calling to us, that is wooing us, that will give us a firm foundation so that nothing can completely knock us out of control. This rhythm is a life centered in the Holy Spirit, a life defined by following Christ.

The Story: Return to the Rhythm of Life – Rev. Frenchye Magee

Reflection:   This week in Sacred Journey, we explore the gift of faith and the joy of sacred rhythms. All of creation is sustained and supported by rhythm of growth. As part of our spiritual journey, we are invited to pay attention to the natural rhythms of life, and them use what we learn to make space for God’s presence and inspiration. As we do this, we learn one of the true secrets of being Christlike: living in sacred rhythm liberates us and energizes us for the work of transformation in the world. Bring a friend or neighbor this week to share the journey...all are welcome!
WORD for Traditional Worship 10am

Sermon:  Return to the Rhythm of Life – Rev. Frenchye Magee
Reflection: One of God’s most important gifts to us is  rhythm . Whether biological, emotional, metabolic or spiritual, rhythm allows to function inside the spectrum of our complex sometimes turbulent lives. How we discover, maintain, protect, and develop rhythms that are life giving can be the lifelong work of spirituality. This week, we consider Jesus’ invitation to join him in practices, habits, and relationship that will lead us to appreciate the joy of life that follows and accommodates intimate fellowship with God. Do you feel out of sync with the life of peace and wholeness God intends you to have? Are you having a hard time sifting through the noise and busyness in order to connect your life to God? As we prepare to begin a new season of programming, ministry, and service we’ll explore what it means to accept the invitation to find, discover and celebrate the rhythm of spirit, sacrament, and service at the center of life.
